Never Fail Biscuits

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2013
Very good biscuits. Flaky and buttery. Always a hit. It looks like a lot of work, but it really isn't. Especially once you've made them a couple of times and you know what you're doing it's quite fast. They may not be the prettiest, but they sure are among the tastiest. I like them for breakfast with a nice sausage gravy.

Burger or Hot Dog Buns

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2013
Best. Burger buns. EVER!!! I have never made my own burger buns before, and these turned out beyond perfect. I was a little unsure on how big to make them as I didn't know how much they would rise, so the sizes were a little all over the place. I did not have instant yeast, so as someone else suggested I used 4 tsp regular yeast, proofed it and let the dough rise twice. It rose so fast I could literally watch the buns get bigger. Oh, and I also brushed them with egg white before baking. They were dense, as so many others have stated, but not too dense. They came out so soft and fluffy on the inside that it didn't matter. And I found it nice to have dense buns versus the usual cotton ball store bought buns. I also did not think that they were too sweet. I thought they were quite perfect. And so did the kids and the hubby. For serving I sliced them, brushed them with a little butter, then toasted them on the griddle until nice and golden brown. I will never buy buns again, nothing comes even close to these. And they were incredibly fast and easy to make. I can't wait to try them for hotdogs. (Btw, leftover buns are delicious with some honey butter.)

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2006
these cookies are awesome. i added the suggested extra cup of sugar, and an extra teaspoon of vanilla extract, as well as some almond extract, and they turned out great. a tad sweet though. next time i'll use only half a cup extra sugar. the dough was extremely easy to work with, not at all sticky, i didn't even have to flour the counter. very easy to roll out and work with. i'll definitely make these again.

American Lasagna

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2004
Wow, this was absolutely excellent!! It was so easy, and yet it tasted like something from a fancy restaurant. Actually, our neighbor said it was better than the lasagna he had at an italian restaurant. I had never made lasagna before, and this was extremely easy, although it's quite a bit of work. It helps to make it a day in advance, that way you can take your time fixing it. I think the sauce would be really good with spaghetti too, will try that next time. This recipe is a definite keeper.

Seven Layer Taco Dip

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2004
Excellent! I always have to make this for any get together, and it disappears in no time. I don't put the olives and bell pepper on though, no one here likes them. I do use a 13x9 sized pan, everything else is too small.

Queenie's Killer Tomato Bagel Sandwich

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2004
Why did I never think of this?? This was absolutely excellent, and I enjoyed every bite of it. I didn't have basil, so I skipped that, but I only had whipped cream cheese with chives, so that made up for it. It does take a lot of effort not to eat it three times a day, this has turned into a new craving for me. Thank you for sharing!

Ignacio's Super Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2004
This was definitely very yummy, but I didn't taste that much of a difference to a regular pb/j sandwich. It was more filling though. I'll make this again, it was really good.

Breakfast Tortilla

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2004
YumYum!! I too spread the salsa/beans directly on the tortillas and sprinkled some shredded mild cheddar on the eggs instead. I will definitely make this again and again, it was soooo good!

Grandma's Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2003
I think I did something wrong here, although I can't figure out what. I followed the recipe exactly, step by step, and it tasted like spoiled milk. (I tried the sour cream, and it was fine. All the ingredients were fresh.)

Eggplant Tomato Bake

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2003
YUMMY!! That's all I can say. Perfect! It wasn't dry at all. I used ff Mozzarella, because I didnt' have Parmesan, and I added a little onion on each "stack". So good! I'll definitely make it again. Juicy, tender, flavorful.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2003
Very good recipe! This was my first try using a slow cooker, and it turned out great! I added potatoes and carrots, 2sliced red onions and fresh mushrooms. I had to cook it for a very long time though, something like 6 or 8 hours on high, and then it was really tender. It makes tons of gravy, I still got some in my freezer. The gravy is too good to throw away. :)

Daria's Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2003
Really really good! It was slightly bland, so I added lots of salt and pepper (I know it says "to taste", but I didn't put enough in at first and had to add more). Maybe I'll try seasoning and browning the beef first next time. But anyway, even picky hubby came back for seconds and thirds. I will definitely make this again!

Slow Cooker London Broil

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2003
All I can say is YUM YUM! I added fresh mushrooms, worcestershire sauce, black pepper, fresh garlic and chives. And I seasoned the meat with steak seasoning before putting it in the slow cooker. I cooked it for ten hours, and it was melt-in-the-mouth tender. No need for knives. I served it with potatoes and green beans, and hubby loved it.

Very Yummy! Very garlicky, which makes it spicy without being too hot. I added some cilantro and a little black pepper, and it's great!

Corn Salad II

Excellent!! yum yum!!! I'm actually craving this right now. I did add a little black pepper, and it turned out great. I think it would be also great with some cheese cubes and/or tuna in it, I'll try that next time.

Guy Approved Meatloaf

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2002
Pretty good, but a little too sweet for my taste. Hubby thought it was really good. I'll make it again, but next time I cut back a little on the smoke flavoring. I really loved the bacon on top, that tasted great. Definitely a different kind of meatloaf. :)

Thanksgiving Leftover Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2002
Excellent!! Even got a compliment on that from my picky husband! I just used a smaller dish (8x11), more turkey (about 2cups) and cheese (we like it cheesy), and I also added some herbs and more pepper to the whole thing. I also didn't have stuffing mix, so I too used crackers with a little butter on top, and it was absolutely perfect! I must admit, the two of us polished off the whole casserole, not one crumb left. This will definitely become a regular now.

Leftover Pot Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2002
Excellent! Very good use for leftovers. It came out a little soupy, but I guess that's because I used frozen veggies. We just soaked it up with bread, and the sauce did thicken a lot while cooling down. We loved it!
