About this Cook
I'm 51, single and I love to cook. Did you know that good dark chocolate goes fabulously with good beer and good coffee? On a cold Saturday morning, I know of no better prelude to romance than a couple of homemade buttermilk pancakes with real maple syrup while sipping a cup of strong dark gourmet coffee with a dark chocolate truffle, from the best chocolatier in America, Gail Ambrosius, on the side. Whoowee! Now THAT'S entertainment!
My favorite things to cook
breads, pancakes and cakes
My favorite family cooking traditions
On Fridays during Lent my mom would always make baked cod and homemade macaroni and cheese and to add color to the mac n cheese, she'd put 3 slices of tomato on top.
My cooking triumphs
I have been developing a chocolate cake recipe for the last several years and whenever I trot it out at work, my coworkers love me even more. I also have a brownie recipe, that I posted to this website, that many many people say is the best brownie recipe they've ever tried, see Blue Ribbon Brownies. It's not a gooey brownie recipe, which I hate. These brownies are thick and very decadently chocolatty.
My cooking tragedies
Too many tragedies to recount. In fact, I just threw out some dough today. I've had many tragedies invoving bread, but bread making is not so easy to learn.

Simple Whole Wheat Bread
Wonderful recipe. Everybody who tastes this bread says it's great. Thanks for a great recipe!

French Baguettes
Great tasting French bread, not French baguette. Loved the taste and will make again, but really this recipe is an American style French bread, not a French baguette. This bread is fantastic for sandwiches. However, every classic French baguette I've ever had was too hard, crunchy and difficult to handle (without everything falling out) to make good sandwich bread.
