Red Lentil Curry

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2014
I am always on a look-out for a good vegetarian recipe - this one is wonderful, flavourful and tasty. I tend to add pieces of pumpkin and blend the whole thing once ready to make it edible for my son with braces, and serve it with freshly cut coriander over rice - bon appetit! Thank you for sharing, Emma.

Yellow Dhal - Sweet Potato Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2013
I have tried this recipe several times already and keep coming back. I loved it! I tried adding pumpkin to potatoes before blending, cubed zuccini 5 min before the end of cooking, etc. All additions work beautifully. Thanks for sharing!

Old World Poppy Seed Roll

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2013
Same recipe as I have lost long ago - on an old label from poppy seed filling from a Polish Store, that always turned out well for me. The only difference that I have noticed was the butter melted and cooled to be added to yeast instead of working it in with a pastry knife, as in this recipe. Many thanks for posting!

Coconut Milk Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2013
Jackpot! The result is a delightful, flavourful and very creamy pudding, well worth the time spent.I have made many quick rice puddings before, but was never able to get the same result you would get in a cozy Thai restaurant on Koh Chang island. Well, this recipe with a guidance of the great video gives you a very close resemblance in texture and taste of the product, and lots of pride in making one yourself. Many thanks to Chef John for detailed explanation of the process of cooking rice. I have never seen it done this way before, and loved learning a new way of cooking my rice. I cooked this pudding to take with us to a Vietnamese New year celebration - an Asian dessert was open to my interpretation, and I chose this recipe.

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2012
I was rather sceptical about the thickness of the batter, but the pancakes were excellent and my family enjoyed them very much - thanks for sharing.

Traditional Russian Pirozhki

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2012
Pirozhki turned out really nice - I am Ukrainian and these are the way I remember them. Before I left the dough to rise, I pat it with some vegetable oil to prevent drying out. My two fillings were: fried onions and ground beef; feta and spinach with a dash of nutmeg. I brushed the tops with a yolk beaten with a bit of water and my pirozhki were ready on 180C in 25 minutes. Vkusno!

I have already used this recipe several times - every time, the scones turned out nice! FYI: 8 tbsp is 115 gr of butter, or just over 1/2 cup.

Zingy Pesto Tuna Wrap

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2012
Excellent recipe - base for creativity/lack of things in the fridge! I had tuna, sour cream, dried basil, olive oil, salt and garlic, and all of this wrapped in warm flat bread went really well with a fresh salad! Thanks for sharing.

Scottish Shortbread II

Reviewed: May 31, 2012
So much like Walker's! My husband raved about the recipe, it is much better than the one I used before from this site, he just suggested to use a bigger baking form for next time to get it thinner - mine were quite thick this time. Thanks for sharing!

Scottish Shortbread IV

Reviewed: May 11, 2012
This was my first attempt to make a shortbread, and it turned out beautifully! I halved the recipe, followed instructions, and brought the ready cookies to my Scottish dance club as a prize for a raffle.

Gramma's Date Squares

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2012
Love these squares - I have already made them several times. Per other suggestions, cut sugar in half, skipped it altogether in dates, used 1 cup of butter, added one more lemon's juice to the date mixture, pre-baked the lower crust for 15 min, sprinkled dates with sesame seeds. Thank you so much for such a wonderful recipe!

Robin's Quinoa with Mushrooms and Spinach

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2012
Amazing recipe - it turned out beautifully. I was looking for any dish with spinach and mushrooms (wanted to free some fridge space) and came across this dish. I have tried quinoa before, mainly in soups, and quite liked it for the health effects of this wonderful little grain. This recipe opened some new cooking opportunities with quinoa. We absolutely love spinach, and it is a great combination. Thank you, Robin!

Basboosa

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2012
Very good forgiving recipe. As a previous review suggested, I added less sugar, some honey and lemon instead of rose water, added ground almond, fit it all in a different size of a pan (adjusting the baking time, too), and it turned out beautifully. We love mid-eastern desserts, but this is the first time I made this one, and it was a hit with an international crowd of friends. Will definitely do again. Thank you for sharing, Lubna!

Easy Morning Glory Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2012
Amazingly nice muffins - I would give them 6 starts if I could. I have already made them a few times, and would do them again! Only one change I made to my liking was reducing oil to 1/2 cup and adding 1/2 cup of plain yogurt.

Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2011
I had only a 1/2 cup of butter, so quartered the recipe, added more sugar than was called for, and the frosting turned out beautifully - I made it for the Sam's famous carrot cake. Very forgiving frosting, easy and changeable. Thanks!

Crumb-Coated Chicken Thighs

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2011
Excellent and easy way to spice up your chicken - it came out nice and crusty and completely cooked inside. I had only 6 chicken thighs, thus have some coating mixture left - intend to save in in the fridge in a ziplock for a week or so.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2011
Made these fantastic cookies earlier today with my cooking club group - entry level to no cooking skills, but very eager little cooks! Cookies turned out unbelievably pretty, tasty and nicely cracked on the top. Our school oven was not as hot as recipe calls for, thus took more time, but the result was well worth it!. Many thanks, Dora!

Best Buckwheat Pancakes

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2011
Very good recipe - thank you. My pancakes turned out very nice, but I did some modifications and would like to share my experience. I doubled the recipe, skipped butter in the mixing stage, but slightly smeared it on ready hot pancakes. Also, I squeezed about 1 teaspoon of lemon juice on my baking soda. Noticed how very important it was not to burn the pancake - I made mine on 4 (electric stovetop) and they turned very pretty. Original setting of 7,6 or 5 slightly burned the pancakes and left quite an unpleasant taste. Ah, I also covered my frying pan with a cover. On the second try I wanted to make exactly 8 pancakes - so, my proportion was 1cup of plain kefir, or laban, 4 tbsp buckwheat flour and all purpose each, some salt, 1 egg. After mixing, leave it for some time (overnight for me), add 1 tsp. baking soda and lemon juice each, mix and start making pancakes!
