NO YOLKS® Creamy Chicken Noodle Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2015
I made this tonight after coming in from a chilly first bike ride of the year. I didn't have mushrooms or fresh thyme. Just left the mushrooms out and used 1/4 tsp of dried thyme. My family loved it. Daughter 6 cleared her plate and said the recipe deserved 5 stars. My son 4 liked the creamy noodles best. I thought the celery was too strong and I'd leave them off next time. Absolutely wonderful after being so cold outside.

Savory Pork Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2014
Excellent as it was written. I added lots of extra carrots and used Better than Beef Base and water instead of broth (I had none). I also added a can of rinsed black beans as others had suggested and eliminated the corn. The pork came out so incredibly tender. The whole family loved it and I have two picky kids aged 4 and 6.

Chicken Chimichangas with Green Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2014
These tasted good, but fell apart. Eating them was tricky. The grease soaked in to the tortillas and tasted delicious although it was very unhealthy. I had toothpicks all over the place but food was falling out while it was frying so I used forks pressing strategically to hold some ingredients in. Didn't work well and I burnt my fingers several times.

Grandma's Leftover Turkey Pot Pie

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2014
I made this recipe and used refrigerated pie crust, 1 can of carrots, and 1 can of peas. Everything else was as the recipe indicated. My daughter, 5 1/2 years old, said it was the best dinner ever and that she would give it 12 stars, not 5. She, like me, scooped up bits of the crust with the veggies and turkey and the yummy sauce. Yum. My son, 3 1/2, he poked all the things separately. We had half the pie leftover. My parents warmed it up and thought it was superb. Mom thought brandy added to the sauce or sauteed mushrooms would be great additions. I might try that next time along with reducing the amount of peas.

Garlic Shrimp Linguine

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2014
I didn't think it was bland at all, neither did my two kids ages 3 and 6. We loved the slight buttery and heavily garlicy flavor. I will say that I ended up doubling the "sauce" and even then added more wine after the shrimp were added. I was afraid that I was going to overcook the shrimp (not much experience), but they were perfect. I didn't add salt either because I used cooking white wine (that's what I had). The meal was easy to put together and had an elegant look and taste that implied much more prep had been needed. I could easily see it becoming a recipe I turn to for my family and company.

Spicy Garlic Lime Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2014
I adjusted the recipe to reduce fat. I used all the same spice mix, but grilled the chicken butterflied on my grill pan. I had sprayed it with butter flavored Pam. It was excellent without a sauce.

Chef John's Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2013
I think this is absolutely delicious. I have made it twice. The first time was a disaster because I replaced the cream in the dumplings with sour cream and some flour. I had been to three grocery stores and couldn't find the one listed in the recipe. I had read that subbing crème fresh for sour cream was fine so I thought lets go backward. Ick. It turned into a mushy cottage cheese mess spread all over the yummy chicken. Almost inedible. The mixture the first time was so much soup that the second time I cut the liquids in half. Still a bit too much liquid for me. The first time I made it I had used homemade broth. The second time, I used canned broth and added a tablespoon of better than chicken bouillon. I cut up about 6 carrots each time. I used a simple recipe for dumplings that I had for the second time. I also don't buy whole chickens. The first time I put in a combination of thighs and breasts with bones in. The second time, I had boneless breasts so that's what I used. It worked just as well.

Cream Cheese Frosting I

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2013
We felt like this was good. No issues with texture. I thought it was a bit too sugary, not enough cream cheese flavor for us. It was good though.

Best Carrot Cake Ever

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2013
Everyone loved this cake! Some said it wasn't the best one ever. My vote is one of the best. I did not have any problems with a heavy or pudding like texture. I did read a lot of the reviews and I followed some of their advice. I added 1/2 tsp of baking powder. I kept the soda the same. I squeezed the juice from the pineapple. I put the shredded carrots on a paper towel for a bit before I went on to the sugar adding step. I put in 6tsp of cinnamon, 1/2 tsp of each: cloves, nutmeg. 1/4 tsp of ginger (didn't smooth out the top). I used the cream cheese frosting I recipe to put between the layers and top. I had no problems with the bake time. I was surprised when it was ready when it supposed to be since I used 9 inch pans that were really full.

Garlic Cheddar Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2013
I made this tonight for dinner. I ended up following some suggestions of other reviewers and I also had to make some other changes. I bought bone in breasts on sale so used those. I cooked them at 400 and checked after 52 minutes. Then let them sit with a foil tent for about 10 minutes. Perfectly done. As far as the way I seasoned them...I marinated the breasts in Italian salad dressing for about five hours. Then I dredged them in butter with 1/2 tsp of garlic powder in it. The only variation to the breading is that I used italian style breadcrumbs and used cheap, not freshly grated parmesian cheese. I also sprinkled a tad bit of cheddar cheese on top of the breasts as I pulled them from the oven. The breasts were tender, had a good flavor internally, and the breading was delicious. Everyone loved it...including my two young kids and my in-laws. Thanks for posting the recipe and thanks for all the reviewers. I love getting good ideas from the things you all say.

Taco Lasagna

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2013
Delicious. I had worried that it would be too spicy for my 2.5 and 4.5 yr olds. So much so, that I actually threw some chicken nuggets in the oven just in case. I also didn't use the full amount of chili powder and left the cayene out completely. I used a mild salsa On the Border manufactures. Everyone loved it. I thought it could use more heat, but my husband and kids loved it. The green onions were delightful to encounter. My in-laws stopped by and they loved it. I had cut the recipe in half and we still had more than enough for the four adults, two kids, and leftovers. This will become a regular rotation to my monthly menu. Thanks.

Pasta Bake

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2013
Very good. A bit dry once reheated. Everyone loved it. I made no changes to the recipe. Very similar to any type of spaghetti, honestely. It was nice to assemble everything early and then leave it till I threw it in the oven. I would definately make this again. Might use italian sausage next time.

Homemade Tomato Sauce I

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2013
Terrific if you want a sauce with an italian type spice mix. I wanted a sauce that I could use to make enchilada sauce and tomato soup. The flavors were too italian. Very icky. Once I discovered that, I left the sauce in the freezer until I was making italian. Terrific as it was other than that.

Cheeseburger and Fries Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2013
OK as is. Kind of bland. My kids 2.5 and 4.5 didn't like it. I had to cook it about 15 minutes longer than the recipe suggested to get the fries to golden a bit, but they were still soggy.
