Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2012
I found this recipe quite some time ago, I haven't gone to any other chocolate chip cookie recipes since. Easily the best cookies ever, I get rave reviews every time!

Broiled Tilapia Parmesan

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2012
My husband and I both really enjoyed this recipe, making it exactly as stated with the exception of margarine instead of butter for the sake of cutting back some fat. Very tasty, we'll be making this regularly!

Oven-Fried Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2012
Great, easy to make potatoes! We used 6 potatoes but kept the amount of the seasonings and cheese as listed in the recipe, except for salt (which we cut down to under 1 tsp) and oil (olive instead of vegetable, using ~2 tbsp.) We also added a pinch of cayenne and they came out very flavourful. Cooking them under the broiler for the last couple minutes really helped crisp them up too. Will definitely be making this again!

Pat's Mushroom Saute

Nothing to write home about, but the balsamic added a nice touch.

Chinese Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2012
I thought these were very good, though my husband said they were a little on the salty side even with a low-sodium soy sauce. We did marinade them considerably longer than called for, so next time we'll stick to the recommended 6-8 hours. Still, this recipe is a keeper!

Chinese Cabbage Salad I

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2012
I had high hopes for this with all the great reviews and we followed the recipe exactly as is, so I was really disappointed with the final result. The cider vinegar was overpowering, the dressing very oily.. We'll be looking for another recipe for next time!

Limehouse Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2012
My husband and I both really enjoyed this, and I'm not big on chicken so that's saying something! We left out the mint and since we didn't have low-sodium broth, we cut the salt down to 1/2 tsp without a need for more. Next time (and trust me there will be a next time!) we'll try using cilantro in place of the mint, and maybe lessen the sugar as it was pretty sweet. Overall a delicious recipe though!

Almost No Fat Banana Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2011
This was an excellent banana bread! I got rave reviews from my family when I made it, though I did tweak with the recipe a little by cutting the sugar to 1/2 cup and adding 1/2 tsp nutmeg, 1/4 tsp salt and a tsp of vanilla extract. When I made it the second time around I added some peanut butter chips, which was also a big hit. I'll never use another recipe again! As a note to others, just make sure you don't overwork the dough and you won't wind up with a rubbery texture :)

Black Bean Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2011
I invited my carnivorous family over when I made this and got rave reviews! This really is an excellent chili. I made a few minor adjustments: I added 3 cloves of garlic, used frozen corn as fresh wasn't available and to save a couple bucks I used a large can of diced romas, drained and gave them a rough chop. Also, as some of the reviews here have said the cumin is a little strong, but using a good pinch more of the chili powder really balanced it out. The only thing I would do differently next time is add more mushrooms!

I liked the consistency of the sauce, but overall the dish was very bland.

One of my go-to's when entertaining! The only thing I do differently is add the whole package of cream cheese as others have suggested.

Ukrainian Red Borscht Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2011
We made this without the sausage and it wasn't a very big hit, but I'm not sure our usual recipe is very authentic at all :)

Cream of Mushroom Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2011
Decent base recipe. We followed other suggestions by adding a few cloves of garlic and sauteing them with the onions first, eliminated the water and added a second can of soup. Also used fresh mushrooms over canned. It was still pretty bland, so we added a good pinch of poultry seasoning and mushroom powder. We served it over pasta and it was decent, but needs some bite to cut through the creaminess.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Nothing spectacular about this stew, it was even a little on the bland side. Not to say it's bad, just nothing special.

The Best Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2011
These lemon bars are a hit every time I make them, and I always make a second batch with limes. Though the recipe is great as is, I add the zest of one lemon (or two limes) to the crust. Delicious!

Mom's Vegetable Medley

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2011
This was a pretty good dish, but definitely a little on the bland side. To turn this 4-star recipe into 5-stars, we added two cloves of garlic, doubled the amount of onion soup mix (we used a reduced sodium mix) and added some pepper. Our family inhaled it! I would also say this recipe serves 4 at most, but we love our veggies :)
