Aussie Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2002
We (my husband and three children) thought this was great! I halved the sauce as several people suggested and subbed brown sugar for the corn syrup. I've made it several times and it has turned out perfectly each time.

Jamie's Cranberry Spinach Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2002
This was pretty good, though I expected nirvana from the other reviews! To keep the cranberries from all slipping to the bottom, I only tossed half of them with the salad, dressed it and then sprinkled the other half on top. The ones on top only sink to the middle, it seemed. I thought it was only alright but the six people to whom I served it absolutely loved it, hence the four stars.

Absolutely Fabulous Greek/House Dressing

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2003
We really like this dressing, but it is very vinegar-y. I only gave it four stars because I wouldn't serve it to just anyone, only to friends I'm certain like vinegar. A tasty variation is one with parmesan cheese added but then you can't leave it out on the counter, obviously, or the cheese goes bad. I'd just add cheese to the part we'll be using immediately.

Kristy's Lasagna

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2003
We love this! This is one with which I don't tinker a bit. I follow it exactly and it always gets rave reviews. I've been making it as my exclusive lasagna for over a year now with never-fail results.

Green Salad with Cranberry Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2003
I made this for my family and parents and they all liked it but I didn't. I don't know, I guess I expected it to be sweeter or something.

Vanilla Ice Cream VII

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2003
This was so rich, we could barely eat a scoop apiece! It was tasty enough, but I'd cut waaaaay back on the eggs next time. I made it for my daughter's eighth birthday party and some of her friends didn't even finish theirs. Mixed with chocolate, malt, and nonfat milk, it makes terrific shakes, though, which is how we used the leftovers.

Chicken Enchiladas II

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2003
This was tasty, but I couldn't get the filling to stretch to fill 6 tortillas, and I was using ten inch, not twelve inch like the recipe calls for! I reread it and checked it but hadn't left anything out so I'm not sure what was up with that. Nobody else seems to have had a problem. I ended up adding a cup of corn and an extra half breast to bulk it out a bit. Everyone loved eating it, at least!

Best Ever Chicken Casserole

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2003
Maybe "best ever" is an exaggeration. It was okay for me, but too rich and bland. I thought it needed more flavor and less fat. My husband ate it but didn't ask for seconds and my children didn't like it at all. I don't think I'll try it again. Sorry.

Chicken Pasta I

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2003
I loved this! I added extra garlic (three more cloves), fresh basil, some sun dried tomatoes, and a zucchini that needed to be used before we went on vacation. We ate half of it and I froze the leftovers, which were just as tasty reheated in a covered casserole in the oven. Yum!

Lime Chicken Soft Tacos

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2003
I have lived in California all my life and grew up on tacos, but these are the best I've ever eaten! I sauteed the garlic with the chilken breast, left the green onion raw and when I served them added avocado and sour cream. The marinade/sauce *makes* these tacos. My husband and all four of my children (age eight down to 14 months) loved them, too. They will be a permanent part of my repertoire!

American Lasagna

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2003
This was tasty but not spectacular like I thought it would be from the reviews. I like Kristy's Lasagna better, also here on allrecipes, and it's easier, too!

Best Chicken Salad Ever I

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2003
We loved this! We also loved it with mango chutney instead of relish and a bit of curry powder. Just a variation, but we were happy with both. It tastes great on greens with raspberry vinaigrette, too, for a change of pace.

Cajun Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2003
Really really fabulous! My five year old ate five servings! I used penne instead of linguine because I don't have time to cut up pasta for my four small children, but it worked really well.

White Chili

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2003
Well, we all thought it was tasty, but ugly. It just looked bland. i couldn't serve it to anyone outside my family just because it looks tasteless, even though we liked eating it. As for the cheese-sticking-to-the-pan problem, I let it finish simmering and just put the cheese on top. When it had melted, I took the pot off the heat and stirred the cheese in. I didn't use a non-stick pan but still didn't have any cheese stuck to it!

Glazed Meatloaf I

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2003
I like the glaze but the meatloaf itself lacked something. I think I'll try adding worcestershire sauce and some onion soup mix next time. My family seemed to like it well enough and I'll make it again, but not without experimenting.

Chicken Cordon Bleu II

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2003
We didn't really go for this. I have one daughter who liked it but my husband, my other three daughters and I didn't. The flavor was just sort of salty and bland. The sauce was somewhat gluey and everyone scraped it off. Maybe I did something wrong?

Overnight Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2003
This was really tasty and easy to make because I could mix it up the night before. It was a little confusing to my 8 year old, though because step one has you pour the batter into a pan and then step three has you prepare the pan ("how do you prepare the pan once the batter is in it, mom?") I didn't follow the rest exactly as written, either: I subbed in half fresh-ground whole wheat pastry flour to make it a little healthier, used pecans instead of walnuts because we don't like walnuts much and used soured goat's milk instead of buttermilk because that's what we had. The texture is moist and light, the flavor cinnamon-y and the topping crunchy and sweet. We'll make it again!

Alyson's Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2003
This was tasty, but I made it side-by-side with "Bodacious Broccoli Salad" (here on Allrecipes) and liked that one better. It has less mayo and adds a bit of lemon juice and some salt (too much, actually, but you'll have to look at that review) which make a difference. I didn't like the seeds in it very much, the crunch of those doesn't seem to mesh with the crunch of the broccoli. Anyway, I would make this again, but FWIW, I like the other one a little bit better. Just a little, like a quarter of a star better! :)

Bodacious Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2003
This was great! I made it side by side with Allyson's Broccoli Salad and liked it better (though not a LOT better). The lemon juice added a nice zip, a little softer than the zip of vinegar alone and there was less mayo. I only used half the salt, and about 2/3 the bacon, but it still seemed a little overly salty to me. My problem was tasting the dressing before adding the bacon, which increased the salt a lot. Also, it is possible my mayo is saltier than other brands (I use Trader Joe's brand), all the more reason to go easy on the salt at first and then add more if you like it at the end. I was surprised how well it kept, too, since dressed salads are usually done for after a few hours, but the broc stayed nice and crunchy all day (maybe it would have been good longer but it didn't last!)
