Spumetti

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2013
I have to rate four stars due to the sugar factor. Wow they're extremely sweet! I made this as written the first time and then cut the sugar and added cornstarch the next time. Toasting the nuts added a lot of flavor. That made for a very good cookie. I baked mine the second time on a lower heat because the cookies were browning a bit too much in my oven. I also added some almond extract. You may like them that sweet, seems others do.

Pears Panos

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2013
I opted to leave my pears whole for presentation's sake and adding only a marginal amount of orange liqueur. I replaced the rest of liqueur with lemon juice upon serving. This is very sweet, (so be warned.) The lemon juice helped cut the sweetness. Was tasty.

Pasta Amnesia

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2013
Fresh, flavorful and easy; that's what makes this dish so successful. We smoked our own salmon and freshly grated nutmeg was a nice touch. I will make again.

Potato Chips

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2013
The flavor of a microwaved chip is surprising good and if you can make healthier chips that's fantastic. The only hang-up for me is how many can be cooked at one time. Still you have to weigh the pros and cons. I think I will check into baking these, because it's a good idea...just I sometimes need more at once. Five stars for being so tasty and better for you. I sprayed with pan coating like another person suggested.

Plain Potato Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2013
I'm giving this five stars because if you're ill; this type of soup really helps because it's so neutral. I didn't add any butter to just keep it gentle for the stomach. I'm sure instant potatoes could be used in a pinch.

I normally really like avocados, but sorry didn't care for this sauce. Thanks anyway.

Southern Cajun Boiled Peanuts

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2013
When I've traveled in the south; I've often seen roadside stands with "Hot Boiled Peanuts" for sale. Sometimes whimsical signs of giant peanuts would advertise them. Every now and then, I like to make a batch of them to enjoy with an icy soft drink. This recipe has some good flavor ideas within. However, I felt quite a bit more salt was needed for the brine. And for our preferences; I will double the rest of the other ingredients next time because we like it spicy. The cook time was spot-on for raw peanuts. I will definitely make again with these changes. A very good base to start.

QUICK AND EASY LEMON LOAF

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2013
Made this for my mom, she's been under the weather. Ofcourse, we all had to sample it; soooo delicious. Poor mom didn't get a lot because the grand kids went wild over it. Thanks manella for sharing. I will certainly make again. Going to try adding the zest from the lemon into the batter next time. That may be too much lemon though. But doesn't hurt to try...you never know.

Stuffed Strawberries

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2013
Stuffed strawberries are an elegant dessert and wonderful tasting. However, the amount of liqueur in this recipe is far too much in my opinion. I only added one teaspoon and that was fine before becoming bitter. If you prefer more, I suggest adding 1/2 teas. at a time until you are satisfied. Better safe than sorry.

Soft-N-Fluffy Hamburger Buns

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2013
The name says it all. I did add a bit more sugar and salt according to our preference, but then followed the recipe exactly after that. I thought they held up to a burger fine. They did wrinkle a little after cooling, but I will try steaming them before serving again. I realize "What's for Dinner, mom?" put a lot of effort and care into this one. My family thanks you!

Citrus Dressing

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2013
I was going to cut the sugar as someone suggested and try, but I got caught up and forgot all about it. Way too sweet (for us.) The recipe is really mayo based so I will use that next time (real mayo.) I think I will sub part Greek yogurt with the mayo and have it healthier. Fruit salad would definitely be good with a less sweet version. Overall great potential... just a little tweaking.

Gingerbread Coffee

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2013
I really enjoyed this... was spiced just right not to mask the coffee flavor entirely. I only added just a hint of whipped cream to color the top, although I did add just a bit more white sugar to taste. Cloves can be overpowering fast and I was leery to garnish, but they did add that last little flavor booster it needed I thought. A special blend.

Menny's Blueberry Barbecue Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2013
I didn't put in the full onion amount because we don't like heavy onion taste...but that could have made a difference with making it taste more like bbq sauce, because it was very mild in that regard. Still very good though. Will make again and play around with the ingredients.

Fried Frog's Legs

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2013
My husband wanted frog legs, but if you're not feeling adventurous enough to try them... use chicken with this recipe instead. Wonderful breading for frying. Paired with the "Dipping Sauce" on this site with the horseradish. So good!

Speculaas

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2013
If you think this cookie is bland...try adding a bit more spice of something you like. I think the cloves are too much and switched out some of it for nutmeg instead. Adding a Tb. of molasses was another flavor booster. Would have been 5 stars without all the cloves. A drizzle of glaze is wonderful and don't forget a cup of hot coffee to go along with them (if you like.)

French Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2013
This is a favorite dressing. Tastes like a brand that's been around for years in my neck of the woods. It's a great recipe as is. Try substituting Splenda for sugar if desired. This is such a flavorful dressing...a little goes a long way.

Feta Veggie Quiche

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2013
I didn't make this with a crust and used part evaporated milk. Also, I cut down on the amount of liquid some... we liked the flavor. The feta cheese makes the difference. Still having a hard time convincing my husband of no meat. So I'm sure I will be adding some next time. Very versatile, I really like that part.
