Indian Saag

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2015
This was inedible. As in, we threw it out without eating it. Waaaaay too bitter. And I didn't do something wacky here--I followed the recipe. I'd be willing to try this again with basically zero mustard greens or turmeric, but as is, yuck. What a waste of food and time.

Chana Masala (Savory Indian Chick Peas)

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2015
Wow. Really disappointed in this. I followed the recipe exactly and the spicing tasted off, the paste was too liquidy, etc. I actually ended up washing off some of the chickpeas and just eating them plain for dinner. Oh well.

Southern Green Beans

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2014
This was just so incredibly bland. My husband and I agreed that it really didn't taste like anything at all.

Seared Ahi Tuna Steaks

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2014
This was just kind of eh. I wanted to try an alternative to the Blackened Tuna Steaks with Mango Salsa because I just keep making and making that one and figure it's good to switch it up... but now I see why I stuck with the other! This was SPICY. But beyond that there's was much flavor. No depth of flavor, no various flavors happening at once, just a lot of spice.

Roasted New Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2014
These turned out pretty well. I wish they'd gotten a little crispier, but the taste was good and the texture was good. Will make again.

Ramen Coleslaw

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2014
Easy to make. Husband says: "It's good." Subbed rice wine vinegar for the vinegar, didn't toast anything, decreased the sugar, and omitted the sesame seeds.

Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2014
Very nice. We all liked this a lot, though I think it was a bit heavy on the butter. This definitely made TWO 9-inch pies, not one. Nice to have the leftovers.

Butternut Squash Risotto

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2014
This was nice! Different than your average risotto, but still straightforward to make. The large amount of liquid that the recipe tells you to incorporate really draws out the cooking, but the overall product was still worth it.

Mint Buttercream Frosting With Dark Chocolate Glaze

Um... it was toothpasty. I just couldn't get over that.

Chef John's Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2014
Made this for a barbecue and got rave reviews on it. It was relatively easy for a more intense mac and cheese. Used fresh thyme from my garden. (Update: I made this a second time with fat free milk. Tasted just as delicious.)

Fresh Tortilla Triangles

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2014
I didn't really enjoy the product. I hope that was a result of bland-tasting tortillas, rather than the technique, because I did enjoy the process of making my own chips. I'd love to make them from scratch, though.

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2014
Fantastic and easy. There's not much more to it. I had this in for 6 hours exactly. Started with frozen chicken tenders, which I shredded at about the 4-hour mark. Am VERY excited to make again.

Fluffy French Toast

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2014
I've tried several French toasts and none has impressed me that much. Of them, this one impresses me the most. It's still not perfect, and I wish it had more of a kick, but again, of the French toasts out there, it wins. Perhaps it's the flour and the resultant crisp?

Focaccia Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2014
Great recipe! This was easy to make and produced a nice amount of really delicious focaccia bread. I didn't even know that focaccia was something I could make at home, let alone make so easily. In case it helps to know, I did not proof the yeast and I had only a "jack blend" of cheese for the top. I also used fresh herbs!

Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2014
This soup came out *really* well, though it did take a bit longer than the directions say (took a while for the lentils to soften).

Bob's Habanero Hot Sauce - Liquid Fire

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2014
Made this for my husband. He said it was a little sweeter than it was hot, but he still uses it on more or less everything he can. I took the star off for the sweetness.

Crazy Cake

It just seemed kind of dull. It's easy enough to make and it looks just fine, but it didn't taste like much of anything.

Bread Dipping Oil

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2014
This was really nice! I used fresh herbs. Kind of wish I'd used dried garlic, though, as its kick was a little too kicky. Otherwise, VERY good. Would happily make again.
