Pumpkin Custard Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2012
I changed it a bit - skipped the crust (just buttered a cassarole dish), skipped the 1/2 cup of milk because the mix already seemed so watery, and didn't use any of the sugar - instead I put in a bit of maple syrup. It was good! I ate it for breakfast, so I ate it cold. It set just fine, but I'm not sure if it's because I left out the milk or because I let it chill overnight.

Sausage Potato Bake

No one in my family really cared for this. In all fairness, I used homemade soups instead of condensed, but otherwise made as directed.

I made this as written and felt it was bland. Could really benefit from some seasoning.

Really good and really easy. Could easily become a one dish meal with the addition of ham or sausage. Thanks!

Pork and Vinegar

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2010
I hate how everything I cook in the crockpot tastes like stew. The pork definitely wasn't stew-like - it had a nice flavor. But I didn't care for the stew-y potatoes and carrots. I'll just leave them out next time.

Mom's Cucumber Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2010
I really liked this - I'd never had a creamy cucumber salad before. I let my cukes drain for a bit, but not lvery ong, so there was a little extra water in the salad, but I didn't mind it - I like how it thinned out the mayo.

Chuck's Favorite Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: May 28, 2010
I was really disappointed in this recipe after reading so many positive reviews. My husband liked it okay, but I didn't care for the texture - the cheeses didn't meld together into a creamy sauce like I was expecting. I think the cottage cheese was the culprit. I might try again and puree the cottage cheese first.

Liver Dumplings

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2010
This is my first foray into cooking/eating liver. I didn't care for these, not did my liver-hating husband. But my picky toddler liked them. Go figure. I'll probably try freezing the rest and saving them all for her. We used cow liver, added an onion and some herbs, and fried instead of boiled.

Cheesy Creamed Spinach

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
I really loved this. I used frozen spinach, half and half, and mozorella instead of provolone because it's what I had on hand. Also, I misread the recipe and mixed it all in a cassarole dish thinking it was supposed to go in the oven. Doh! I just baked at 350 until it got melty and brown on top. This is one of my toddler's favorite ways to eat veggies.

After-Thanksgiving Turkey Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
YUM! I didn't have a turkey carcass, so I used a whole chicken. Also used bulgar instead of rice (personal preference), and added in more half and half just because I wanted to use up the bottle. Delicious! I ate two bowls. It does make a lot, so I froze about half of it. I can also see making this with leftover chicken and store-bought broth.

Chocolate Brittle Surprise

Wow, this is one of the easiest things I've ever made, and it's so freaking good! I used walnuts and graham crackers, cooked butter/sugar on the stove, and cooked in the oven only maybe 7 minutes. Thanks for such a great recipe!

I've never had chili like this before (despite being a Texan). It had a great flavor, though, and was very tender.

High Temperature Eye-of-Round Roast

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2009
Hmmm...not sure if what the problem was, but mine only reached an internal temp of 120, so it wasn't done. Another reviewer suggested keeping the oven on 200 degrees instead of turning off entirely. I might try this if I attempt this recipe again.

Beef Pot Roast

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2009
I hate pot roast, but this was so good. Followed the recipe exactly, as other reviewers warned me to do. Resulted in a tender, tasty pot roast with plenty of juice in the pan to make gravy. It was so tender, my toddler with two teeth could eat it. Thanks!

Becky's Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2009
I never heard of using whipping cream in chicken salad before, but it was good! It makes it creamy without being too mayonnaise-y. To be honest, with this recipe, I didn't measure anything because I was lazy - just added mayo until I thought it was creamy enough - so I can't comment on whether this recipe uses too much mayo or not.

Easy Garlic Broiled Chicken

What I especially like about this recipes is it tastes great with no marinating. I always forget to defrost my meat in advance, so I never have a chance to marinate. Thanks for an easy, tasty recipe!

Easy and tasty - great for a quick dinner. I was afraid it would be too oregano-y, but it wasn't at all.
