I'm a chemistry major and I love food science. It really inspired me to start cooking. I've also loved watching Good Eats forever. I'm vegan because I want to live as cruelty-free as possible.
My favorite things to cook
I almost always cook on the stovetop. I like cooking things that are quick, easy, healthy, and flavorful. I love making sweet desserts too.

As a self-taught cook, any dish that tastes good is a "triumph."
My cooking tragedies
My first few recipes from the BHG New Cookbook were awful. I had to eat them all myself because I was too ashamed to share them! I soon learned to look at a variety of sources instead of taking everything from one cookbook...

Fluffy Pancakes
I love this recipe. These pancakes are exactly what you'd hope for from a plain pancake recipe, and it works GREAT with vegan substitutions. I swapped out milk for soymilk, 1 egg for 1 tbs of flax + 1 tbs water, and butter for Earth Balance. These pancakes are very fluffy and so easy to put together. Add some berries and this recipe is perfect. I also like to add a scoop of flavored protein powder when I cook for myself. (Yummy protein pancakes are an awesome way to start a busy day.)

Great recipe. It does taste very similar to lobster. You don't even need to broil the fish. Instead of broiling, I melted 2-3 tbs of butter in the pan over medium-low heat and cooked the cod on both sides until it was slightly golden brown, adding paprika to one side. I also used Splenda instead of sugar in the water mix.

JIF(R) Irresistible Peanut Butter Cookies
I followed this recipe using reduced fat Jif peanut butter. The cookies turned out very mild. Everyone who tasted them said they could use more peanut butter and sugar. Keep this in mind if you like a strong peanut butter flavor. The texture was soft and pleasant, but they might need an extra minute or two in the oven.
