Sweet Restaurant Slaw

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2012
I was looking for a coleslaw recipe to go with my pulled chicken. This was pretty good, I cut the recipe down tho...even with a 1/4c of sugar I found it way sweet and added a dash of dijon mustard and a bit more vingar and more of the coleslaw from the bag. I also cut on the mayo to 2tbs since hubby doesn't like that stuff. It tastes pretty good actually, I'm impressed think it will be great on our shredded chicken sandwiches. Thanks for sharing :)

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2011
These are the best raisin oatmeal cookies i've had and im not a huge fan of them at all. I had to bake them fro 11min. But they were so soft in the middle, I loved that. Not great for people on Weight Watchers, Im having a hard time saying no to second. I did have to mix with my hands because I couldn't get a good mix in otherwise. And I used full butter since Im not a fan of shortening. I also added a couple scoops of my husbands protein vanilla powder. Thanks for sharing a great recipes! :)

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2011
Awesome recipe! I make these into mini muffins for the kids and my husband to take to work so he can pop them in his mouth as he's working. So many ways to change them and make them even healthier. I even had a scoop of vanilla protien. And I make half batch as is, and today I'm making the other half with chocolate chips. I also make them with full whole wheat flour and they still turn out very moist! Awesome recipe, thanks for sharing :)

Basil Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2011
Im not normally one to stray to far away from the recipe, I like to try it first, then tweak it. However, I had no clue as to wear to start to make tomatoe soup. This one was given the best reviews, and I tweek it according to that. I sauteed onion and garlic first in a little olive oil and spray. Then added the tomatoes and the broth like it says. Added the sugar and fresh basil. I however only used about 1tbs of butter and I used 1% condensed milk. It would've been way to fatty for me because Im Weight Watchers. But I got a huge batch of soup and just sampled it and its really a beautiful soup. I can only imagine how wonderful it is with full fat. At my own preference I used a blender to blend it up and make it less chunky. But still beautiful, just gonna make the grill cheese to go with it. Thank you very much for sharing this recipe, giving a base to a beginner soup maker :)

Chicken Enchiladas I

Reviewed: May 8, 2011
I've been making this recipe for over ten years. The only changes I use is not adding water, and I don't use the Taco Sauce since I don't care for the taste. And if I find it's too runny I use a slotted spoon and take out the good stuff into my tortilla shells and then I use the remaining sauce and poor that over the enhiladas instead. runny or not you can't lose. The recipes is awesome! Tonight I'm trying it with a whole roasted chicken instead of the breasts. Don't be detoured from the "runny" comments...like I said the sauce that comes out of it is delcious and tastes way better then taco sauce on top.

Chewy Granola Bars

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2011
I tried to make them exact, but I did need more honey about 1 cup, and more butter probably about 3/4c. I also took suggestions and used the 1/2 cup of rice krispies. But I used just rainbow chocolate chips to suggestion. The sugar probably wasn't needed because of so much honey. I loved the taste of them, but my son did not. They're very thick...I even cut them thin making 19 of them. However, i think the only thing healthy about this granola bar is the fact there is no perservitives in them. They're still quite unhealthy. On weight watchers at 19 they worked out to be 8points each...which is a meal in itself. I could have 1/2 of one for 4 points. Thanks for sharing...they did taste pretty darn good!. I much rather have half of one these then the store bought kind.

Amazing Whole Wheat Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2011
I thought this was a good dough actually. I made it as is, but made pizza turnovers with the dough. I was able to make 16 turnovers. For a whole wheat crust I was quite impressed. I just brushed the tops of my turnovers with a bit of olive oil. Im sure the crust would be just as nice with the spice changes. And I used my Kitchen Aid Bread dough hook and the dough came out great. Thanks for sharing.

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2011
These weren't bad, but I don't think they were fabulous. As one reviewer said it reminded me of refried beans when you bit into it. The flavour was nice though, I like the spice of it. I put the veggies in a cheese cloth and wrung it out. I also froze the patties, which I got 5 out of. I topped it with fried mushrooms and onions and havarti cheese. Like I said, they were good but not like screaming awesome. I would like to try them with lentils myself, maybe it wouldn't have that refried bean consistancy to them then.

Apple Breakfast Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2011
A very lovely bread! I did the suggestions and did 1/2 white sugar, 1/2 brown sugar. I also did half whole wheat and white flour. usually the whole wheat flour will over power the flavour but not this time. I used a little over a 1/4cup of butter and probably about 1/2 cup of apple sauce only because whole wheat flour can be drying. I also added extra spice, using nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and a tinge of ginger. I added it in the flour as well as the wet mixture. with the apples I peeled and cored them cut them small and yet left it a bit chunkier. I did make a crumble topping with a bit of butter, oats, cinnamon and brown sugar. I had a smaller pan, but it still turned out good. I baked it for an our and ten minutes and left it in the oven for a bit when I turned it off. I would LOVE to dress this bread up with a cream cheese frosting drizzled on the top like a cinnamon bun for a treat on a saturday morning. Thanks for sharing!

Belles Hamburger Buns

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2011
well the first batch of these did NOT turn out. I did it exactly as instructed mixing the yeast in with my flour, however, it just didn't rise well. I also had used 2 cups of Whole Wheat Flour, and 2.5 cups of white. I left the other cup of white out till seeing if I needed it. Not wanting to feel defeated I made another batched and saved the other smaller ones as biscuits for soups. The second time around I waited till the liquid was lukewarm, then added the yeast to it and proofed it first. Once it was done about 15 min, I then added it to the flour, this time using 1 cup of whole wheat and 3.5cups of White Flour. They don't feel super light, but Im assuming that is from the whole wheat all purpose flour. Anyway, they resemble hamburger buns better then the first batch and did what it was supposed to which was rise! Im not sure how they taste yet since they just came out of the oven, but will try them with my hamburgers tonight and then update this one on taste. Thanks for sharing!

Turtle Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2011
This was very RICH and decident! I actually didn't have enough of the carmels but I did have extra ice cream carmel sauce, so I added it to the milk. But I don't think it was necessary. And I also forgot to the pecans down before I spread the cream cheese in the middle...since the edges were exposed I was able to get a few around the edges. My favorite was decorating the top. Since of course mine cracked (Im always afraid it's not cooked long enough, nothing worse then under cooked desserts). So what I did was I drizzeled some remaining carmel sauce on top. Then I sprinkled a few chunks of chocolate chips and the pecans. Then I melted some Lindt Chocolate and drizzled that back and forth. It looked professionally done. The cake was very heavy. And everyone wanted a large piece, however everyone felt sick after, but man it was worth it. I didn't really try any thing different thought the recipe was pretty good on it's own. Thanks for sharing :) UPDATE::::: so I made this again, trust me to always do something wrong. I bought enough carmels this time, and had some left over which was good. Because without measuring the can of milk I just plopped it right in. where I am there is not the smaller cans they're the size up. Anyway so I added the extra carmels on hand to make the sauce thicker. And I actually put the carmel mixture in properly. This is such an AWESOME dessert! Yes it is sweet, yes it is rich, but that is what cheesecake is all about! its a fave!

Portobello Mushroom Stroganoff

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2010
I couldn't stop eating the sauce!! So yummy! However I did use the suggestions. I added 3 cloves of garlic and sauteed them with the onions. When I added the mushrooms and they softenend a bit I added a bit of Thyme, Oregano, Pepper and a bit of Cayenne I used no butter, only a tsp of oil and cooking spray to sautee veggies in. And I used a tbs of cornstarch instead of flour to make sure there was no flour taste in the food. At the very end I added the parm and blended it in. I found this recipe with the suggested changes good. I hate changing a recipe...but it's always good to have the guidline to make it even better...thanks for sharing! Would like to try with beef or meatballs too!

Pretzel Turtles

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2010
I made this for a little treat on the side of another dessert and they were a huge hit. I don't know why this time I didn't look at the other reviews, thought it might be a self explanitory recipe. However, as we ate them we were trying to find another chocolate that might offer more caramel then the hershey kiss. I thought maybe a jumbo rolo, but never thought of dove. Either way this recipe is fabulous. I have seen this recipe with plain kisses with a m &m and on top for those who don't like the nuts like little ones. you could make a batch for the grown ups and some for the kiddies.

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2010
The muffins turned out great! They're not overly sweet at all, and I like the crumble on the top. They turned out VERY moist and I did not find them overly sweet. I did use frozen blueberries because that is all I had...they were fresh once, I just froze them, so I ended up using more blueberries just because they swell in the freezer. I also added a little bit of white chocolate chip to make this a treat muffin on our Saturdays. One tip...wait till they're cool before biting in....the blueberries burnt my tongue! Also they only made 10 regular sized muffins, and I still filled them up to make them as jumbo as they could be, they're still a good size, but would love to make them in some jumbo tins.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2010
Alright, I made this recipe just as. I got flustered at reading so many different reviews. The eggs were cold, nothing major happenend. The butter was still warm when I used it...again nothing bad happenend. The only thing I did was cool the batter in the freezer for about 15 min. It still felt a bit warm but I made them anyway. I also made them smaller. They were crispy on the outside, moist in the middle. The kids loved them which is a suprise because they're are so finicky about their cookies. I suggest making them just as the first time around. I wasn't disappointed. Then adjust it. I would like to try using less butter and less sugar. Enjoy, thanks for sharing! UPDATE: Sept 17, 2010. I really have NOT changed this recipe, I couldn't bring myself to try a lower fat version of this delicious cookie. The only difference is that I use like 4 or 5 different types of chips. I just put a little bit of everything till I reach a cup then pour it in, then I might do the same for the second cup but maybe add 1/4 cup extra of my favorite chip like the chunk. Today I tried, mini chocolate chips, white, dark chunk, hershey milk choc and hershey mini kisses...can't wait to have a bakery home style cookie at home!

Vegetable Melody

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2009
Well it seems sort of silly to rate your own recipe. Obviously since I love it I give it 5*. I don't know if really is that good, all I know is that it's the one thing I look forward to every holiday and the day after for the leftovers. It's a very simple dish, it's not overally fancy with a ton of spices, but it still tastes like you spent a lot of time on it. What else can I say, it's my favorite! I hope you will like it too and I'm curious how you will change this dish so I could give it a go too. Although I think it's pretty perfect! :)

Easy Meatloaf

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2009
I was quite impressed with this recipe. Im not a meatloaf fan persay, but my husband suggested it for something different and decided to give it a try. I didn't have any breadcrumbs with spice, so I added just the normal italian spices. I also did what everyone suggested and sauteed the onions and garlic and some chopped mushrooms for a little bit, but only with a tsp of butter. I was nervous about 1 cup of milk, cause I've never heard or putting milk in it, and then making blend...but it worked! Also I didn't have the worshsture sauce, so I added a few drops of hot sauce. Also with the topping I ran out of ketchup so I added bbq sauce. I thought it was awesome! Thanks for sharing this recipe...it was VERY moist, which is a nice change from my dry meatloaf!

Brown Family's Favorite Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2009
Well on behalf of my family, I give this a 5 star rating. My dad who is SUPER picky, said it was the best pumpkin pie he has EVER had. And I had lots of others say it was great. I did use real pumpkin, I don't know if it changes the consistancy or what have you, but I thought the pie was quite moist. I would like to try it with pumpkin from a can. Considering this was my first pumpkin pie ever, and one of the first pies I've ever made, I think it turned out pretty good. I did love the topping, and Im not a walnut fan. Also I didn't feel that there was enough spice in the pie. I like it really spicy to bring out the pumpkin flavour. I even baked the pie a day before hand hoping the flavours would come out. So I would probably add more spices. I will definatly try this pie again! Thanks for sharing!

Szechwan Shrimp

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2009
I enjoyed this recipes a lot. It was simple, and I had all the ingredients in my house, I didn't have to go make a special shopping trip, and the taste was excellent! Even my picky husband enjoyed it and said it was a recipe we could keep. I doubled the recipe like everyone said because I added extra veggies, broccoli, red pepper, green pepper and mushrooms. The only change I made to the sauce was instead of using water, I used reduced sodium chicken broth for a bit of an added flavour. Very yummy! Would love to try this with chinese noodles. Definatly a keeper. Thanks for sharing!
