I live in Upper Michigan with my husband of 11 years. I've been cooking and baking all my life, and am never happier than when I am in the kitchen. My hobbies include scrapbooking, crafting, computer crafting, reading and gardening. I always have fresh herbs on hand, and love to use them in my cooking.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy cooking most anything, and am always willing to try new recipes. My passion, however, is baking, and I always do tons of Christmas cookies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
One of my fondest childhood memories is baking Christmas cookies with my Mom, grandmothers and aunts. It is a tradition I continue today with niece and sister-in-law.

Cornbread Salad I
This salad is a surefire showstopper and makes a stunning presentation when layered as the recipe suggests. I used a clear glass 6 quart trifle bowl and made a few adjustments, and it turned out perfectly. I used 2 packages of Jiffy cornbread mix prepared as to the package directions and added double the spices, as well as a 4 ounce can of chopped green chilis, and a finely chopped onion. I used black beans instead of pintos, and used 2 cans instead of one, and 2 cans of corn. I left the bacon amount the same, but doubled the dressing, onion, green pepper, green onion and tomato, and used 2 cups of cheese as the recipe states. Certainly, you can mix everything together as others have done, but if you're looking to impress a crowd, make the extra effort, and layer this salad. It was truly the star of the show at our church potluck, both in taste and presentation. This one is going straight into my favorite recipes box, and will be enjoyed again and again. The only mistake I made was not taking copies of the recipe, as it was requested over and over, and the rave reviews left me confident that I had indeed found a "keeper!"

Chocolate Chip Orange Zucchini Bread
This bread is awesome! As a professional crafter, I often include homemade quick breads in my booth, and this has become my bestseller! I do what previous reviewers suggested and drizzle an orange glaze over the bread, use half white and half brown sugar, and because the first time I made it, I didin't have oil, I used melted shortening, and have kept using it since. I make this in the disposable mini foil pans which come with the plastic lids, and this recipe will make 4 of those. Bake them 45 instead of 50 minutes if you use the mini pans. Great, great recipe for gift giving, too...thanks so much for sharing this one!

Buttermilk Pancakes II
Without a doubt, the best pancakes I've ever made, and I've tried many! I did add a little vanilla, but that's our personal taste. These freeze beautifully and go from freezer to toaster to table with no problem. Simply place them in single layers between sheets of parchment or waxed paper, put them on a cookie sheet and freeze. After they're frozen, remove from the cookie sheet and place in ziploc bags, then remove and toast as needed. Perfection! Thanks for a great recipe that we'll use again and again!
