I am 74 yrs old, wife and grandmother to 8 living in an active gated retirement community. I am active in dance, ceramics, cooking, bocci, and rummy Q clubs in the community. I also attend ceramic classes and have had a lot fun making a variety of items.
My favorite things to cook
I liked to cook anything and everything except I am not interested in desserts, cakes or cookies now as I am a diabetic and only found a very few I like in sugar free desserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Shepherds pie, turkey burgers, Sweet and Sour meatballs, brisket, noodle puddings (kugels) sweet and savory, stir fries, chicken soup with matzoh balls, beef barley mushroom soup, any soup. Rosh Hashonah, Passover, and Chanukah dinners. Birthday dinners for our friends.
My cooking triumphs
Passover Dinner for 23. It was a big hit. I even made the sponge and honey cakes. I've made Cioppino dinner for us and 2 other couples, actually did it twice for the same couples they loved it so much.
My cooking tragedies
Sauerbraten. Made it for company for the first time. Nobody liked it. Never made it again. I was mad at my husband and children when they were young and made a fish dinner nobody liked. Made them eat it! Of course, I didn't.
