Just finished reading a recipe for turkey breast and onion soup mix.  The directions didn't say anything about removing the skin.  Just rub onion soup mix on and under skin.  The first time I used the slow cooker I made a turkey breast and it turned grey, I threw it… MORE

About this Cook
I am 74 yrs old, wife and grandmother to 8 living in an active gated retirement community. I am active in dance, ceramics, cooking, bocci, and rummy Q clubs in the community. I also attend ceramic classes and have had a lot fun making a variety of items.
My favorite things to cook
I liked to cook anything and everything except I am not interested in desserts, cakes or cookies now as I am a diabetic and only found a very few I like in sugar free desserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Shepherds pie, turkey burgers, Sweet and Sour meatballs, brisket, noodle puddings (kugels) sweet and savory, stir fries, chicken soup with matzoh balls, beef barley mushroom soup, any soup. Rosh Hashonah, Passover, and Chanukah dinners. Birthday dinners for our friends.
My cooking triumphs
Passover Dinner for 23. It was a big hit. I even made the sponge and honey cakes. I've made Cioppino dinner for us and 2 other couples, actually did it twice for the same couples they loved it so much.
My cooking tragedies
Sauerbraten. Made it for company for the first time. Nobody liked it. Never made it again. I was mad at my husband and children when they were young and made a fish dinner nobody liked. Made them eat it! Of course, I didn't.

French Onion Soup Gratinee
I lost this recipe and so happy to have found it again. Much better than restaurant FO soups. I have been very disappointed that some ofour local bistros (people say they are great) do not live up to the hype. The the ingredients, wine and gruyere cheese are the key to this soup.

Broken Glass Cake
This recipe was a must for my sister (rip). It was my sister's signature dessert. She was asked to make this for every family event. Did not make a graham cracker topping. Was not needed. But, instead of a 9x13 pan, it was made in a mold, when she needed to unmold it, placed bottom of mold into warm water until it was able to unmold onto a plate. Placed a plate on open side of mold, turned it over to unmold onto the plate. Spectacular! Nobody has attempted to make it.
