Cappuccino Muffins

Reviewed: May 23, 2012
5 stars all the way!! I didn't have any brown sugar so I substituted with 1/2 cup white sugar and 1 and 1/2 tbl.molasses in the muffin batter. For the brown sugar in the topping I substituted with 1/4 cup white sugar and 3/4 tbl. molasses. I also only had medium sized eggs so I used 1 and 1/2. Definately a favorite and soooo moist!! The whole family liked it, even those who can't stand coffee. Thanks Leslie for sharing!!!

Easy Bacon, Onion and Cheese Stuffed Burgers

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2012
I don't usually eat burgers, but I liked these, and the family enjoyed them as well. Instead of adding salt and garlic powder I just used garlic salt. I also added some onion powder and seasoned salt. And As Amy, the submitter said she did, we had ours with fries and root beer floats. Yum!!

Golden Cinnamon Granola

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2012
I was looking for a basic recipe so I could add some on top of my yogurt, and this came out good. All I had on hand was whole grain quick oats, the honey, butter, cinnamon and salt. I downgraded the recipe to 5 servings and made it with just these ingredients. I also added about a quarter to a third tsp. almond extract and a bit of nutmeg to the butter mixture before stirring in the oats.

Raspberry and Almond Shortbread Thumbprints

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2012
Wow!! Quite possibly my favorite cookie of all time, and I just love how easy, quick, and the low amount of ingredients needed. I did press down the center a little too much on a few in the first batch and the jelly went through. The 2nd batch I pressed lighter and they came out great. And just a tip... space them apart enough or they'll run in together.

Saucy Apple Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2012
I didn't make these in the oven, I used a crock pot. I just like how tender the meat comes out in it. I used garlic powder instead of minced, and omitted the butter, as I didn't brown the meat first, just simmered in the crock pot. I also added a little cinnamon to the sauce. These were even better the next day, as they seemed to soak up the flavors even more. My mom absolutely loved them, and she isn't a pork eater!! Thanks Amy for the recipe!

Creamy Scalloped Potatoes by Daisy Brand

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2012
I just used regular old potatoes, nothing special, and I didn't have Asiago cheese, so I believe I used cheddar (I'm reviewing this a week or so after making, so I can't remember if I used another kind of cheese with the cheddar or not). I'll probably add some extra cheese if I make it again, and slice the potatoes a little thinner than what I did. My oldest daughter couldn't stop ranting and raving about these potatoes. Not a favorite of mine, but good, others in the family liked it better.

Our Favorite Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2012
I agreed with Sarah, one of the other reviewers, that this cake was on the dry and crumbly side, so the 3 stars is my oppinion. The taste wasn't bad, but not chocolaty enough for me. I did have to make a change and use baking cocoa instead of the chocolate it called for, although substitutions of this sort are right on the can, I've done it before. Now as for my families oppinion.... they all seemed to like it. One of my daughters said it's her favorite, and my husband said the cake tasted like the cake in devil dogs. But as for me, I'm going to keep looking.

Country Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 29, 2012
Boy, did the family like this!! Wasn't a drumstick left. Didn't have canola oil, I used vegetable oil instead. And I added 2 tablespoons Aunt Jemima Buttermilk corn meal mix to flour mixture (of course I had to double the recipe). I only cooked in oil until brown and finished in 375 degree oven for about 20 minutes until cooked through. (They were big drumsticks.)

Sour Cream Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2012
The kids gobbled this down! I added just a little bit of celery seed seasoning to this. Originally I had rated this 4 stars, but I guess I just didn't let it chill enough. It only chilled for about an hour and a half or 2 hours at the time I rated this, but then I had some the next day, and it was even better, so I changed the rating to a 5. It stayed creamy. My mom said it has a great flavor, and my daughter said she likes it even better than the classic kind I usually make. Very good, I just may stick with this one!!

Bacon for the Family or a Crowd

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2012
easy way to get more done at once, and the foil makes for a quick and easy cleanup. I also put a piece of foil on top of the pan, loosly, to avoid splatters as another reviewer mentioned. Would preffer less grease though, although I did drain anyway. May look into a metal rack as others suggested.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2012
I did everything just as said exept I didn't grease the pan, and they came out great. I also did use a combination of milk chocolate chips and semi-sweet chocolate chips, as one other reviewer suggested. Some suggested refrigerating the dough before baking, I didn't and there wasn't a problem. Just dont leave them in too long, or they'll come out crispy instead, as my first batch did. They still tasted great though and had no complaints from family. Putting the last crispier cookie in a baggie overnight with a piece of fresh bread on top of it (the yeast keeps the cookies from getting too hard) and it was no longer crispy in the morning. Even the first batch looked good, I just prefer a little softer cookie. Great recipe! Thanks Elizabeth!

Cranberry Muffins

I wish I could rate these a 5 twice over! Super good!! Moist and tasty, and the cranberries are delicious. Followed to a T, just sprinkled some cinnamon in the batter before adding the cranberries. Not a bunch though.

Mom's Favorite Baked Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2011
Thanks GEPETTO_69!! I omitted the onion as some in the family isn't crazy on them, and I didn't use dry mustard. I used cheddar and added some mexican cheese blend in place of american cheese, and I always lightly butter my glass baking dish before adding the pasta to it to help avoid it drying out some. I added extra shredded cheddar on top before placing in the oven as well. Thanks again, the family loved it!!

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2011
This was so good!! Instead of mixing the flour, salt and pepper I bought some beef stew seasoning mix and coated the meat with that. The seasoning already had worcestershire sauce in it, so I omitted my own, and I didn't have a bay leaf. When it was close to being done I put some flour in the bottom of an empty jar and added cold water. I put the lid on it and shook it up until the flour was mixed in with the water, and then poured a little in the stew and mixed it in to thicken the sauce some. I also used already peeled baby carrots...much easier. Thank you BUCHKO!!! I will be making this again!!

Scrambled Egg and Pepperoni Submarine Sandwich

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2010
Absolutely delicious! I had a package of big, round pepperoni slices, so I used them whole on a toasted hamburger bun instead of a roll. I fried 2 slices of pepperoni and sprinkled garlic powder on them,( just a little), instead of the clove, while they were frying. I will deffinately be having this again!

I made 2 batches just as told and didnt change a thing.I added green food coloring to the marshmellow of one batch after it was melted in the pan, then after it was all put together and done cooling,i used Christmas tree cookie cutters to make Christmas trees.I sprayed cookie cutters with cooking spray before cutting so it wouldn't stick. The other batch i left white and used snowflake cookie cutters. It worked really well and looked nice for my daughters Christmas concert class.

Peanut Butter Ice Cream Topping

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2009
Today my son and I made this together. He said it was quick and easy and he thought it would take longer to make this kind of sauce. We put sauce in the middle and on top of our ice cream. It was very good. I added a little less water and more peanut butter. Next time I may add even less water and sugar. Very good, though.
