Dad's Escarole and Bean Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2014
Yum! I added two cans of tuna for some protein boost and 1/2 cup of red quinoa for texture. Delicious!

Could not be easier! Add some greens like spinach or kale to the black bean mixture for some extra calcium and iron.

Quinoa Stuffing

I agree that it was bland. I added cumin and sugar and that helped but the spices in this recipe definitely need some work.

How to Make Bolognese Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2013
I liked learning the technique of using the milk but something about the flavor of this was just...off. It tasted too much like wine and not like anything else. I will definitely try using my own seasonings next time!

Rich and Creamy Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2013
Used chicken instead of beef, still tasty. Took recommendations from reviews and used a dash of chili powder instead of red pepper flakes, it was awesome.

Chinese Steamed Buns

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2013
I kneaded the dough until it looked shiny and elastic but I think that made the buns too dense in the end. I'm also not a fan of the flavor - too bland for my taste.

Bread Pudding II

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2013
If you like breadier bread pudding, use older/staler bread. If you like creamier bread pudding, use newer/softer bread. The stale bread will hold its shape nicely but still get soft and the fresh bread will dissolve into the pudding mix while maintaining the bread flavor and crust on top. I also was confused by how runny it was in the middle when I took it out of the oven, but when I put it in the fridge overnight it firmed up perfectly.

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2012
Thick and fluffy but taste like baking powder. I tried Grandma's Baking Powder Biscuits, which have a much better flavor (no baking powder taste and a bit sweet) and don't require all the kneading and rolling that these do.

Fluffy, just a tad sweet and plump enough that you can skip rolling and cutting - super easy!

No need for the black beans - sausage + sweet potatoes + whatever veggies you have around = awesomeness. Thanks for sharing, CRVGRL!

Basic Flaky Pie Crust

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2012
I could not get this crust to hold its shape, no matter what I did. I wound up having to piece it together inside the pan.

Pie Crust IV

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2012
Tip: Use plastic wrap if you don't have a pastry cloth - drip some water on one sheet, sprinkle a tablespoon of flour on it, then place on sheet on top of it, roll into ball and work with it as you normally would. This crust is awesome - I rolled it super thin and it still held its shape.

Vegan Lasagna I

Tip: Leave the liquid from the tofu, blend it all in a blender/food processor - it comes out almost exactly like ricotta - some people who ate it actually thought it was cheese!

Magical Egg Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2012
super quick and easy and it's creamy and delicious - I didn't have steak sauce so I used 1 tsp of worcestshire sauce + 1 tbs bbq sauce. Hint: Instead of chopping the eggs, just use a potato masher. I should have cooked the eggs for 1 or 2 minutes longer because part of the whites peeled off with the shell.
