About this Cook
I'm a 23 year old and a recent graduate of Millsaps College! I have a BA in vocal performance. Apart from singing opera I am a semi-professional photographer. I love animals! I have 3 rescue dogs, a goldfish tank and a green iguana. One of my dogs patiently sits in the kitchen the entire time I am cooking in hopes that I will notice what a good boy he is and feed him things. =P
My favorite things to cook
I am really excellent at baking! I don't bake much unless it is for a party or special occasion, since my father is diabetic and my mother has decided she wants to be a vegan! I am exploring other things, and I'm getting really good at roasted vegetables, vegetable soups and slow cooker meats for dad. One of our favorites are the cranberry pork chops I found on this site, which instead of frying I kept in the slow cooker for 4 hours on high while they soaked in a mixture of apple cider, chicken stock, cloves and thyme.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I really enjoy some of the recipes we have for Thanksgiving and Christmas, such as my mother's pumpkin pie and fudge recipes, as well as her sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, and other similar dishes. Every year I throw a Christmas party and bake cookies and appetizers, which is always loads of fun!
My cooking triumphs
My greatest cooking triumph was an edit I did on the butternut squash apple harvest soup recipe I found here. I added some extra spices, changed out some ingredients and it really came out spectacular! People rave about it! I also have a recipe for angel food cake, carrot cake and chocolate cake that people really love. My mother's beef enchilada recipe is a big favorite as well. I do a lot of recipe edits, but I don't really come up with my own!
My cooking tragedies
I tried to pan fry pork chops once. They came out tough and not cooked entirely, so I've stuck to the slow cooker after that. They always fall off the bone with tenderness after the slow cooker!

Cranberry Upside-Down Sour Cream Cake
I would give this 5 stars with the following edits: like other reviewers I bumped the sour cream to 1 cup and added the zest of an orange to the sauce. I also put in a half tsp of vanilla extract and a half tsp of orange extract. It was a big hit for thanksgiving! And really gorgeous on the table!!!

Cranberry Dip
I made this as the recipe stated, tried it, and then added a big dash of cinnamon, a big dash of allspice, and pinches of ginger and cloves. That was JUST what it needed! Good recipe to begin with, great with the spices added!

Cinnamon Bread Delight
This was really good! I jazzed it up by adding ginger, nutmeg and cloves to taste, and replacing the vanilla pudding with pumpkin spice pudding. The compliments won't stop rolling in!
