My main interests are religion, family, composing music, philosophy, debate, and of course food!
My favorite things to cook
Any kind of sandwich
Breakfast! (hashbrowns, eggs, sausage)
Brats and burgers
...and always adding more to this list
My favorite family cooking traditions
I've only really held to a few recipes that are from the family with no real traditions; but this is why I'm interested in cooking, to make my own traditions.
My first tradition/rule is that I now LOVE high quality ingredients. I was slow to appreciate them but have found the light. Great ingredients can make the biggest difference with many recipes.
My second rule is to listen. I'm not the only one who likes to cook and most others have little tricks and tips that beat my own. I have a few up my sleeve, but cooking is learning; there is always more ways to try it.
I try to kindly bait, coerce, or trap all my friends to trying new things :) sometimes with amazing results, and sometimes with regrets (anchovies.... a big no) But it's all worth it!
My cooking triumphs
I take two approaches. 1) To make things I like at restaraunts and make them better, which I have done many times. 2) To try to make things that are interesting that I've previously never heard of.
Anything on the grill or in the oven I can turn into perfection.
My cooking tragedies
I can't fry. I need to learn, but I fail every time.
Allrecipes needs a "My cooking goals" section, which will be as follows for me:
I want to make Gyros.
I want to make southern amazingness (just anything from the south).
I want to eventually get a deep frier and make my own poppers! (and more)
Although I've had success making BBQ, there will come a day where I build a smoker and go crazy with BBQ madness, I will take over the world, one pulled-pork sandwich at a time!
