Cooking...my mothers got me started. One taught me Soul Food & the other taught me Caribbean food. Now I get to return the favor and share healthy recipe ideas with them. After being diagnosed with a genetic metabolic disorder that is kept in check with either serious meds or an extra healthy diet; I opted to take my eating to another level, with much success…I’m still drug-free!
My true passion is learning so when it comes to food I LOVE trying new recipes, spices, gadgets, methods etc. Becoming a foodie has opened up a whole new world for me and I’m just excited to be an adult yet I still get to play with my food.
My favorite things to cook
I make a lot of beans - they're easy, versatile, inexpensive, great for you and delicious! I also love just about anything savory - onions & garlic...oh boy!
My favorite family cooking traditions

Now my own family cooking tradition for special occasions consists of meals like arroz con gandules, pernil, coquito, collard greens, mac and cheese (no blue box stuff!), red velvet cake and banana pudding. YUM!
My cooking triumphs
I had tomato basil soup previously listed as a tragedy. I finally got a real food processor, made some changes to the recipe and TOMATO BASIL SOUP is now a TRIUMPH!
My cooking tragedies
I haven't had one in a while but I will update as soon as I hit another roadblock. Previously it was: "I LOVE tomato basil soup and tried making some at home...major FAIL! Wrong texture, wrong acidity, wrong flavor...wrong, wrong, wrong. :("
