Traditional Indiana Persimmon Pudding

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2007
I gave this 5 stars because it is almost exactly like the recipe that's been handed down in my family from the same era, and it is simply heavenly! Living in Texas for 25 years, I still crave persimmon pudding at Thanksgiving. I'll be contacting Dillman Farms this year!

BREAKSTONE'S Triple Chocolate Bliss Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2010
This cake is delicious!! I didn't do the Cool Whip and Raspberries however. I did add 1 cup chocolate chips to the batter as well as 1 teaspoon of peppermint extract. Just a hint of mint and so yummy! Frosted with Pillsbury milk chocolate frosting because I was in a hurry for a co-worker's birthday. Decorated with some fresh strawberries and voila! Instant raves! Baking time was just a smidge over one hour.

Brandied Orange and Cranberry Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
This is the best! I like to try different cranberry sauce recipes, but stopped with this one. I did cut the sugar a bit, but all the zest is what makes it special. My MIL requests this for every holiday dinner since the first time she tasted it. Even all the kids like it!

Ting-Town Barbeque Beef Sandwich

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2008
Best barbeque ever, in my book! The only thing I changed was using steak sauce instead of Worchestershire, just because it's what I had. I let it cook all day on low in the crock, then put it on the stovetop for about 45 min on medium-low to thicken the sauce. "Dipping" the buns is a great tip, too. Would make a great 'stuffed' baked potato, IF there were any leftovers! Sending this recipe to my whole family, thanks so much for sharing!!

German Apple Cake I

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2008
Awesome cake! I substituted applesauce for half the oil, and a mix of Splenda and Splenda brown sugar blend for the sugar, added extra cinnamon and some pumpkin pie spice and diced the apples (used 4 big Granny Smiths - about 5 cups). Also added 3/4 cup of walnuts. I made a glaze with confectioners sugar, cinnamon and vanilla flavored coffee creamer and drizzled over the top. Big hit with my husband and co-workers! Will be using this recipe again, thanks!

Lemon Herb Barbeque Sauce for Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2007
This is wonderful! It's a very different flavor for barbequed chicken. I have shared this with friends and co-workers and it's a hit! I marinated the chicken overnight to let the flavors blend. Thanks!

Asian Coleslaw

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2007
This is without a doubt the best slaw ever! I took it to my in-laws for dinner and my MIL (the slaw afficionado) raved. I did use a little sesame oil in the mix to give a little more "Asian" flavor. Outstanding!

Broiled Chicken with Corn-Pineapple Salsa

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2008
This is fabulous! I cooked the chicken breats on the Foreman grill with just a little seasalt. On the salsa, I used SummerCrisp corn and added 1/2 of an avocado chopped, ground garlic/seasalt blend, and about 3 T lime juice. Truly eye-rolling good! If I could give it 6 stars I would. Thanks for a great recipe!

Smothered Chicken Breasts

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2012
My husband loved this, but then, who could resist bacon, cheese and carmelized onion with ANYTHING!? I did add some fresh garlic, can't cook without it. Definitely will be making this again, and loved the easy clean-up!

Alyson's Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2014
This is a fabulous salad! Definitely use the red seedless grapes instead of raisins. I didn't have white wine vinegar so I used rice vinegar and it's great! Also used lowfat mayo with no issues. The whole family loves it, always requested for get-togethers.

Excellent cake! I made it for a birthday at work Thursday, now I have to make another for Monday! Frosted it with chocolate buttercream enhanced with Nutella. It flew out of the pan! Thanks for sharing a great cake!

Brown Rice Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2006
This was so easy and delicious! I omitted the split peas b/c I didn't have any on hand, and used diced tomatoes with green chilies to spice it up a bit. A definite keeper! (I'm making it again this weekend)

Lemon Pecan Pound Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2012
This cake has good texture and flavor, but is on the dry side. I barely baked it long enough to be done, so it wasn't the baking time. I think this would be better if there was some sour cream or pudding in it for extra moisture. The glaze helps, but not enough. Pound cake implies a pound of butter, and this only calls for 1/2 pound - maybe the recipe was adapted and that's why it's a little off and why the pan size seems to be off as well? I'll try again with tweaking. Good starter recipe, the pecans add a good flavor and crunch.

Authentic Huevos Rancheros

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
I don't know what all the hoopla is about whether this is 'authentic' or not. It's just plain good! Cheese snobs might say use cotillo, queso blanco or whatever. I say whatever you have is fine. I do suggest trying the Hatch brand Huevos Rancheros Sauce, and the vegetarian or fat free refried beans are excellent. Thanks for reminding me about a simple and delicious meal!

Pumpkin-Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2011
I made bars since it seemed like they were more cake-y. Used a whole can of pumpkin for more flavor, added another 1/3 cup oats and about 1/3 cup Splenda, used golden raisins and pecans. Baked in a 13 x 9 for about 35 minutes. Hubby says YUM!

Southwest Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2008
This was really good and quick for a mid-week dinner. I knocked it to 4 stars because you can't make anything "Southwest" without onion, garlic, chili and cumin at a bare minimum. Good blend of textures with the corn and beans, and with some spice tweaking, it was a hit. I served it over rice and it looked just like the picture!

Korean Barbequed Beef

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2008
This was really good, but I think it would make a better stir-fry than grilled dish. Also, I would use more chili paste next time to give it more kick.

Piggies (Sugar and Cinnamon Pie Dough Cookies)

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2012
My mom used to make these with leftover pie crust. I think the trick is to roll the dough thin and slice them about 1/2 inch thick. Delicious childhood memories!

Oyster Dressing (Stuffing)

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2008
This is really good as is, and very similar to what I grew up with in Indiana. The only change I make is adding some chopped giblets from the turkey, along with a little broth they were cooked in. I've always used white bread because it doesn't compete with the delicate flavor of the oysters. If you never tried oyster dressing, try this one!
