Brand new empty nester. Love to cook, and wish I could travel to places I have never been before. Like going on short day or weekend trips as well.
My favorite things to cook
Love to bake.
Love tex mex, but having a hard time finding recipes. Try avoid using pre-packaged items in my cooking, as fresh as possible
Roast beef, chicken dinners complete w/mashed potatoes home make rolls, salad, gravy etc.
Salads / Soups
Like to try new recipes
Lots of veggies, sometimes vegetarian meals.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving- Love being in kitchen w/my girls. Every year we take turns making different family dishes. That way when my girls are out on their own they will know how to make a complete Thanksgiving meal & have it all done at the same time. Note: Prepping turkey is always funny, I try to have my camera handy.
Christmas brunch is one of my favorite traditions. The night before we make our fav. egg casserole, potato dish w/French's fried onions, pull apart (easy morn. prep). Open present and enjoy spending time together
My cooking triumphs
I just love it when a new recipe turns out well.
I think one of my triumphs was the time I tried making homemade bagels, got the recipe on youtube. Wish I had time to do it more often it was fun.
My cooking tragedies
The year we tried to BBQ the turkey on the grill. Our briquettes would not stay lit, we had to keep adding liter fluid (which we hardly every used). But, our turkey ended up tasting like liter fluid, it was horrible. Luckily everything else turned out, so we had plenty to eat.
Lesson learned; don't buy bargain brand briquettes when it counts (like for Thanksgiving) :p
