I love to cook, so at the age of 49, I volunteered (for the first time) to host my side of the family for Thanksgiving dinner. I planned the menu carefully asking my mom and sister for advice and ideas. I looked up all my recipes on Allrecipes.com using
Chef John's recipe for roasting the…
I am a mom to three great kids. My 17 year old is my only girl and I'm trying to teach her how to cook. She just isn't too interested right now. My 14 year old has Down syndrome and Autism and loves to help me in the kitchen. : ) My little guy is 10 years old and he loves to watch me bake so he can lick the spoon. My wonderful husband is really happy that I am cooking so much because he loves eating, ha ha. I am a special education teacher but am not working right now because I have been sick for the last two years. I am finally feeling better which is why I have been cooking up a storm the last few months. : ) Life is good.
My favorite things to cook
I LOVE to bake all types of things like breads and desserts. I also like using my dutch oven because I am in love with it (please don't rat me out to my husband, ha ha). I watch a lot of Chef John's cooking/baking videos and he has really made me a better cook. He has a website called foodwishes.com which is fantastic.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite family memory of cooking was with my Grandma Kenner and my Grandma Reasons. My dad's mom made the best from scratch food and my mom's mom made the best pies ever. They both taught me that cooking/baking from scratch is the best way to cook. I miss sitting at the counter watching and helping them cook.
My cooking triumphs
Hosting my first ever family Thanksgiving dinner this year. Everything turned out delicious and my family raved about the moist Turkey and my super delicious Caramel Apple Pie. Thanks Chef John!
