Due to the scarcity of current income that is one of the inevitabilities of life change, creating succulent food out of ...potentially non succulent ingredients is a challenge. However, my breakfasts have NOT suffered. Yesterday I was craving an omelette, so preparing myself for the raid of the… MORE

About this Cook
I'm a newly graduated nurse who is still trying to figure out what I want to do when I grow up. I grew up in Alaska, I love reading, gaming, cooking, eating, gardening, and pretty much ...everything? Except pimento loaf. I HATE pimento loaf. I congratulate anyone who can eat it. I love to travel, and I do so whenever I can. I've been to the Middle East, and every state in the US except for Hawaii. I wish there were a job...where I could read, cook, create, chatter away to people, and eat ...
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking anything that makes people happy to eat it: but my recent favorites are zuppa toscana, cinnamon rolls, and I'm excited to venture into creamy root vegetable soups...mmm...carrot and ginger.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up in a Mennonite home, and my mother was Martha before Martha was Martha. SO. I grew up with homemade meals every night, and holiday feasting was really feasting, with huge family dinners, and huge family leftovers on huge family platters with not so friendly huge family games of scrabble or uno. I miss those days. My mom taught me everything I know, and she is still teaching me today. She is an invaluable encyclopedia of "what degree is this supposed to be at?" and "I whisk until the eggs look like WHAT?". I have learned through her to be horrifed at using processed ingredients "do you realize I could make that for 37 cents...why are you buying it?!", and that good food takes love, time, and the ability to recognize when what you're making has fallen...and start over.
My cooking triumphs
Zuppa Toscana, Cinnamon rolls, turkey at thanksgiving that was done WITHOUT the stuff inside it...>.>, Pork chops to die for, and home made candy...I was so surprised when I realized how easy caramel is!
My cooking tragedies
SO: I cannot cook Indian food. I tried. I failed...I will try again, but omg. SOMETHING goes wrong EVERY time. Turkey with the insides still in it. Turkey with ..."I'm supposed to thaw it first?!" ...and a chicken marinated in honey, dates, cilantro, and chili sauce. You'd think it was delicious. It SOUNDS delicious. It's not. At all. Just fyi.
