About this Cook
I am cooking for my 2 year old son, and my husband... and all hubby's bachelor friends that miss mom's home cooking! I was a vegetarian for 5 years so I am exploring the world of preparing meat for the for the first time in my adult life.
My favorite things to cook
I love to make sauces. I think a great sauce is what makes a dish great. I'm still working to perfect my roux, and experimenting with cheese sauces now. :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Summer spaghetti (olive oil, garlic, sliced garden tomatoes, and fresh basil tossed with pasta)... and cookie mania during the holidays!
My cooking triumphs
I made a tasty mac and cheese (without Velveeta) that my son gobbled up.... he hates eating! top score!
My cooking tragedies
lesson learned, when making dipping chocolate for chocolate covered strawberries..... water does NOT thin the melting chocolate. that mucky, granulated mess went straight to the bin. And I went back to the store to buy more chocolate and start over!

Broccoli Cheese Soup
I tried this and was pleased that such a simple recipe could be so tasty. I also added a generous amount of fresh ground pepper, and 3 cups of steamed rice to the soup, and doubled the cornstarch to make it nice and thick. The rice really helped the soup be a 'meal' and made it more filling. I served the soup with big hunks of crusty bread for dipping during Monday Night Football. The guys were all stuffed. It was a hit!

Beef and Mushroom Stroganoff, Aussie Style
This is a great twist on plain old stroganoff. I added 2/3 of a large tub of sour cream, doubled the bullion, doubled the curry and added a can of cream of mushroom soup. the extra liquid did require a roiux to thicken it up, but we are sauce people, and needed some extra. We will be having this again soon!
