Intoxicating Onion Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2007
This soup was pretty good. We were a little skeptical at first...wine and onions??? We cut it down to two servings, used dried parsley and added half a can of chicken broth. It tasted pretty good without the broth, but we think it tasted a little better with it. I think using fresh parsley would have made this dish taste even better. Hooray for 2 buck Chuck!

Mansaka

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2007
Holy cow this was good! We stuck to the recipe and it turned out fantastic. Next time we will make sure the potatoes are soft when we layer them. We had a few slices that were still a bit hard, but it really didn't affect the taste. I will make this dish again. Never really knew the power of cinnamon. Yum!

Slow Cooker Mediterranean Stew

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2007
I picked out the smallest butternut squash (4lbs) I could find at the store. After cubing 1/2 of the squash, it was enough to fill the crockpot half way and everything else just fit under the lid. The only thing I added to the recipe was a Jalapeno instead of the red pepper. It turned out great! We really liked it and will make this again. We served it with a loaf of French bread and a salad - YUM!

Kung Pao Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2007
Yep, this was really good. Easy to make. Needed to be a bit more spicey for us, so we will throw in a jalapeno or two next time. I doubled the marinade, but took half out before adding the chicken to the rest of the ingredients so it didn't turn out too soggy/pasty.

Chinese Chicken Fried Rice II

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2007
I omitted the chicken so we could just have fried rice along with our Kung Pao Chicken(from allrecipes.com) dish. We threw in some mixed vegetables and some chicken broth to give it a bit more flavor.

Easy Chinese Corn Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2007
Really good and easy soup to make. The consistency was just like the egg flower soup in a Chinese restaurant. It did need a bit of salt & pepper.

Baingan Bharta (Eggplant Curry)

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2007
WOW! This was really good. I used one jalapeno, but I think I will use at least two next time because it wasn't spicey at all. We made the Baingan Bharta along with the Curried Coconut Chicken for dinner and they both were delicious. Forgot to make some basmati rice to go with it, but we did have some naan. Thanks.

Mushroom Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2007
We really liked this dish. A few changes we made to the recipe due to what we had on hand were crimini mushrooms, no green onions and we added one more clove of garlic. The dish tasted very good! I would either water down or heat up the cream of mushroom soup before pouring it on top as it just kinda clumped on top out of the can. We made 2 servings since we had 2 potatos on hand. We cooked it on high for 1hr and on low for 2hrs and the potatos were already done. Thinking 3-4 hours on low next time. I think 1 or 2 jalapenos and maybe some chicken as well next time. Leftovers did not taste as good the next morning. Oh yeah, since the Stanley Cup playoffs were on and we had a few drinks by the time it was done we forgot to add the cheese at the end. It tasted great w/out it! Thanks!

Mexican Rice II

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2007
We really liked this recipe. Didn't change anything, but we did add some carrots and peas. First time we've made good mexican rice. In the past we have tried the boxed store brands and they really never tasted good. This recipe had a good, mild taste that everyone enjoyed. Thanks!

Nanny's Goulash

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2007
This was really good. I am still eating the leftovers from a week ago and the taste gets even better with time. This is a fun recipe to work with because it is so versatile. I threw everything into a crockpot and cooked it on low somwhere around 4-6 hours. I waited until the veggies got soft to turn it off.

Chicken Tikka Masala

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2006
THIS WAS REALLY REALLY GOOD! We eat a lot of Indian food and this could have easily made it into the buffet rotation. I followed the recipe pretty closely, except for the sauce I added a bit more jalapeño to spice it up a bit, tossed in a handful of cubed tomatoes and added only 1 tsp of salt (next time, I will not add any salt). Instead of using a skillet, I threw all of the ingredients for the sauce into a slow cooker. Cooked the sauce on low for a while and when the chicken was done, I tossed the pieces in there too for a couple of hours. My wife stopped by the local Indian restaurant and picked up some samosas and naan. This was an awesome dinner! We will make this recipe again.

Burmese Chicken Curry (Gaeng Gai Bama)

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2006
This dish was very good. Easy to prepare. Browned chicken in skillet and finished in the crock pot. We could not find palm sugar anywhere and we live in a very diverse area. Used medium curry paste, would have preferred hot. The dish was missing something, maybe an additional spice. We couldn't figure it out, but we still believe this recipe is a 5 star and will make again. BTW - the curry paste stained our utensils.

Swan's Summer Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2006
We were pleasantly surprised how good this recipe was. I was very skeptical about how this mixture of ingredients would turn out. We have never tried a cold soup before because it never sounded all that appealing. After I mixed everything together and took a look at the soup, I thought to myself, "yuck" and quickly made a plan B for dinner (pizza delivered). I took a taste and was shocked at how good it was! We ate it all. Great flavor and consistency. I did what HIPPYJEN75 did and made “Grilled Poblano Pepper and Mango Quesadillas” using the mango filling from the “Fish Tacos with Tropical Fruit Salsa” recipe we recently made. Everything turned out delicious. The only difficulty with this recipe is finding GOOD tomatoes. I went to 3 different stores looking for tomatoes and was not happy with any, so I broke down and used canned tomato juice. I did buy two vine ripened tomatoes to dice up for the soup, but even they had no tomato flavor. Does anyone know where to buy/get GOOD tomatoes that TASTE like tomatoes? We will make this soup again.

This turned out very good. We did not deviate away from the recipe and everything tasted great. Don't be afraid to add a bit more salsa on the tacos, it tastes delicious.

Sausage Stroganoff

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2006
Yummers! This was very tasty. We felt it was the sauce that really makes this good so we substituted the stated sausage with what we had in the fridge “Sausages by Amy” (Apple & Gouda cheese chicken sausages) from Costco and used low fat sour cream. It turned out wonderfully. We will definitely make this recipe again.

This was very good! Cut the recipe in half, but did not deviate away from the ingredients. We poured the sauce over two baked potatoes and we ate it all. Very tasty, quick and easy.

Slow Cooker Pozole

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2006
Very good! There was something missing in the recipe that I just couldn't figure out, but we really enjoyed this dish. We added some roasted jalapenos and anaheim chilies into the blender to give it a little more spice. We used chicken breast only, white hominy only and reduced salt broths (salt to taste at the dinner table). Poured the pozole over mexican rice in a bowl and ate with corn tortillas - YUM! Not greasy at all. Will definitely make again with a few more tweaks. Couldn’t give this 5 stars since we altered the ingredients.

Phyl's Salsa

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2006
This was very good! We cut the recipe in half. I would add one or two more jalapenos next time because it wasn't hot enough for us. Couldn't find banana peppers so I substituted with tomatillos and added a few garlic cloves and cilantro. I Forgot to mix the corn starch w/H2O before adding, so we had some corn starch flavor crystals occasionally. Also, we thought it was a tad sweet so we will omit the brown sugar the next time we make this. Bueno salsa! Thanks for sharing!
