About this Cook
I'm 35 years old. Married, father of one gorgeous little girl. I have been cooking since I was old enough to stand on a chair at the stove. No formal training.... yet. I have always had a love for the kitchen, great food, and the culinary arts. i can thank my late grandma Beryl for that. and my wife and friends for spurring me on to new heights and allowing me to be proud of my "kitchen prowess"
My favorite things to cook
i love to cook anything. like on "chopped" you give ingredients and ill make em good. ( probably take longer than 20 minutes though ) lol. I do enjoy making a big pot of my el grandes green chicken chili. top secret recipe.
My favorite family cooking traditions
grandma beryl's thanksgiving, boy do i miss her. potato pancakes on valentines day. (not sure why) maybe because were polish lol. creamed eggs on Easter, and homemade kahlua, mmmm. almost forgot The Great Biscuits and Gravy Feast every year on opening day of fishing season. i miss that cabin on the lake. takes me back, I can almost taste grandmas biscuits with homemade jam.
My cooking triumphs
anything substantial that i can pull off in my tiny kitchen with my cheap electric range.
My cooking tragedies
one time i was steaming some beets and the water actually dried up in the pan. wow what a nasty smell of hot iron/beet juice burning onto a burning pan. Nasty! now when i do beets i use my pressure cooker. It's so fast!

Basic Cheesecake
i added about 4 tblsp of fresh lemon juice and about 1 and 1/2 lemons worth of zest. i also added 1 additional tblsp of flour to make up for the extra juice. it gave it a really nice lemon zing! i plan to top it with blueberry compote with a tiny touch of fresh basil. it DID crack but im sure the flavor is spot on so oh well....

Janine's Best Banana Bread
I like this recipe. I make it almost exactly except I fold in a few blueberries then top my batter with a sprinkle of turbinado sugar for an amazing sweet crust
