I was born and raised in Michigan. I have lived in Florida, Arizona, Philadelphia, and now new Jersey. I truly never though I
would leave Philadelphia I really liked living there and had lived there for over 30 years and then I meet Bill and without realizing it I slowly moved to New Jersey. It took my son pointing it out that I lived in New Jersey before I thought about changing
my drivers license. He was right how ever I had even gone as far as getting a job in New Jersey, and only went over the bridge to my house to clean it and check on it, even Max my dog was happily running around enjoying the freedom of a large yard and the
company of 2 new brothers that looked almost just like him.
I have been here over 10 years now and this state amazes me more and more each day. Like every other state New Jersey has it’s
problems and politics, but that is not what I am talking about I am talking about how beautiful and full of life this
state is. What ever you want New Jersey has it from the water gap, to the beautiful shores, from the farthest northern tip all the way to the southern most tip of the state it is filled with beauty both from nature and man made. There is always something to
do in New Jersey. I know I sound like a travel advertisement but it is true, just ask any one who lives in New Jersey.
This weekend was our getaway weekend
so we went south a little, we stayed just outside of Atlantic City and had dinner and drinks, a dance or two and just enjoyed a relaxing evening out together. The morning was sunny bright and very chilly exactly as you expect a spring morning to be. We set
off south using the back roads well if you can call 9 a back road any way it was empty of traffic and full of blooming pink and white trees, old stately farm homes as well as new, the pansies and tulips and as we got farther south the Irises we plentiful and
so amazing. We drove until we found a restaurant that wasn’t jam packed and looked cute. I know but cute diners and off the wall places are my favorite. While looking for the perfect restaurant we past the Cape May County free zoo and I gave a little chirp
of “Oh the Zoo” Bill didn’t respond in any way he just kept on driving. I waved to SHORECOOK as we drove past the turn to her house and then continued on with my sight seeing. You would think I was a tourist and not someone that is there all the time, but
really it is always changing from one season to the next and from year to year. We found the perfect diner and ate a delicious breakfast at our leisure enjoying all the activity around us. Even the totally inept waitress made us laugh even still she should
be real happy Bill handled the tip. Back in the car we go and Bill turns back the way we came. I figure we are on our way home so I don’t say anything because I know he won’t hurry about it and he will find one road or another that I have never been or don’t
remember. I was ear to ear smiles when he pulled into the ZOO. This a place I love and one of New Jersey’s finest attractions. That
is my opinion any way. It is for sure in the top 10 reason I love this state.
The day has warmed up but you still need jackets and me I needed a hood. Jackets and hoods on we set off for the magical walk
through this little zoo. True it is not overly big but it is big enough and they do an amazing job housing and caring for the animals that live there.
The peacocks roam freely about the zoo and boy are they loud. Pretty but loud and none of them yesterday felt the need to fan
When ever I go to this zoo I always seem to miss the Buffalo they are always in out of the heat taking a nap. Well
on this perfect spring day every body seemed to be out enjoying the weather including the buffalo
This is the one exhibit I don’t like it for some reason bothers me to no end. I think if the enclosure were much bigger I would
be less upset by it. I do believe the 2 eagles are rescued eagles and they needed to be cared for still the enclosure bothers me. I took the pictures because Bill asked me to and I am adding them here because well I took them.
This has to be my favorite picture of the day. I don’t think any picture says spring more then this one of Mom and baby turtle
playing in the water.
Another Mom and baby just chilling, take note of the excellent reuse of Christmas trees.
This guy was shy and that was as close as any one got to seeing him.
There are so many other animals living there and as I said they were all out and playing or chilling, the Lion was stretched out
in the sun just snoozing away as happy as any cat I have ever seen. The bear he looks like such a clown all fuzzy and cuddly looking , yep no I don’t think so. The reptile and birdhouses were fun as always and even the large snakes were enjoying the day as
they followed along the glass as small children walked by dragging their hands across the glass. Yes there is so much more to see and talk about but this is a blog not a book so I have to end some where and this seems like a good place to me.
Needless to say I was one very happy lady at the end of our weekend getaway and Mr Wonderful he was smiling too.
