I'm a university student living away from home and attempting to learn how to feed myself! I owe all food-related achievements of the past two years to my roomates - they've taught me practically everything I know about nutrition and cooking (when I first moved out, I was convinced I could survive on Kraft Dinner and Chef Boyardee Ravioli...)
My favorite things to cook
Last year it was perogies and garlic-butter shrimp. New favourites are baked salmon, chickpea-quinoa salad, spinach and hummus sandwiches, ground turkey and oat half-burgers with my special blend of spices/sauces (yummmmmm).
My all time, forever and always favourite are chocolate chip cookies. I'd love to learn how to make a fab cheescake or pie.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mom is the baker and chicken maker; Dad handles chili, guacamole, and amazing Digby scallops (bacon-wrapped if I'm lucky); Little Sis makes a mean strawberry-rhubarb pie, or French loaf; Aunt does the veggie lasagna; Uncle's specialty is seafood chowder; Grandma has a German lemon cheesecake; other Grandma makes pretty much everything with her own recipies. My whole family cooks, I have a LOT to live up to ...
My cooking triumphs
Recently made two apple cakes to contribute to thanksgiving dinner with all my friends who didnt make it home for the holidays.
My cooking tragedies
Somehow messed up Pilsbury chocolate chip cookies. They melted into a giant blob.
