Well, I am semi-retired  so I could plan not to work this year during the Christmas Holiday and I set aside Friday in my head for get ahead of the madness day.  Hah!  Daughter in law called in distress, school is closed Friday and so is day care......could you possibly?  Of course I will babysit my two grands, they can "help me" get ready, no problem.  Ring Ring, call number two, "Um there's a slight complication, 9year old grandson has something stuck in his right ear and the pediatrician can't get it out.  There is a pediatric ear specialist at a ped. Hospital complex 25 miles to the south of us that will see  him at 11:30 on Friday. Could you possibly  Of course I can. (anything for that Kid!!)

So off we go. Doctor took one look in the ear, ordered him to the special procedures room, put on his head lampand scope and voila!  Out it came.  An unpopped kernel of popcorn.  Of course the kid said he had no idea how it got there.  Ha!  Dr. asked me why I didn't just stick his head in the microwave, I told him I tried but I just couldn't get the door closed.  Made me think of King Sparta nuking his phone in the microwave.

Any way, popcorn is not on the menu for Christmas dinner tomorrow, we had ours early.  Bless you all, seasons greetings. I for one am so grateful for my family, especially those grands.

Not furious at all. I am really crazy about him and he has a hard time doing anything wrong in my eyes, makes his parents crazy. When he is with me he is as good as gold, he acts up in a normal way with his parents of course. One time his mom asked him why he was so well behaved with me. His answer = "Because she's Grandma!" That is his sister who is my little avatar on my blog site.

You just have to love kids! You are a good Grandma. :) Over the years I have dealt with raisins and peanuts up the nose but never popcorn....at least not yet. Shhhhh - don't give them any bright ideas. Merry Christmas!

Dr. said it was just recently introduced into his ear and that it was a good thing we caught it early. He sees a lot of popcorn ears and he says after awhile the kernel swells and causes real trouble. So if you even suspect a case of popcorn ear, off to the doctor or ER you should go. and p.s. The good news is I did not have to pay for the doctor visit or the procedure. Parents checkbook not mine!!

It's nice to find humor with the antics of grandkids. When their parents were young, those same antics were met with correction. ... I made your Boursin Cheese recipe and served it at Thanksgiving and at Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Always cleaned up! Thank you!

About Me
I am a retired registered nurse. I have two fabulous grandchildren ages 10 and 7, they live only 1 mile from me so we cook together often.
My favorite things to cook
I like one pot meals, slow cooker, rustic fare. Lately, I am cultivating recipes for soup and have turned out some really good results, especially using curry seasoning. I am not a baker.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I make many of my mother's dishes. I like to entertain with just a wide array of appetizers sometimes, even though it is labor intensive.
My cooking triumphs
My Italian spaghetti sauce. My famous pot roast made in an oven bag. Appetizers.
My cooking tragedies
My latest debacle is making Pho, Vietnamese beef soup. Very labor intensive, many exotic ingredients, cook all day. I went to strain it through a cheesecloth lined colander and forgot to put anything under the colander. Down the drain it went; 7 hours worth of broth. Oh Well!
