Apple Gouda Quesadillas

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2008
This won't be something I'll make all the time, but it was an interesting recipe. I used smoked Gouda and added bacon like other reviewers. I also mixed a little honey butter with the Dijon mustard to help counter some of the mustard's intensity (really glad I did, it still came out pretty strong). I used the Foreman propped open to make this on its highest setting using the cooking times indicated, which seemed to work well. My brother and fiance had the same reaction to these I did: these quesadillas are kind of good and definitely interesting if you're looking for something different, but not something to put into regular meal rotation.

Guinness® Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2008
This recipe is wonderful as is. No one in my family is even a huge Guinness fan, but everyone loved it. Followed the recipe exactly, although next time I might start checking the bread about 10 minutes early on the second cooking time or rotate the dish because the back of the loaf was just starting to burn. Fit great in a 9x9 Pyrex dish. This went really well with an Irish stew. It tastes great with or without honey butter, go with your personal preference on that one.

BBQ Chicken Pizza I

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2008
This came out really good, everyone loved it! I was careful to get just Hickory BBQ sauce instead of Hickory Brown Sugar BBQ sauce, which I think was important in not making this too sweet. Also, I think the smoked Gouda really is important to balance out flavor over another cheese. I used about half the onion and only a small fraction of the cilantro that was called for and added a little red pepper. I substituted maple syrup for the molasses because it was what I had. I will definitely make this again.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2009
This was my first time making lasagna and it came out amazing! I accidentally bought only one can of tomato sauce instead of two, so had to substitute a can of diced tomatoes, and used a whole pound of ground beef, but followed everything else. Everyone loved the taste of the sweet Italian sausage- if your grocery store has it I think it really makes this. This will be my one and only lasagna recipe from here on!

Roasted Vegetables

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2009
I love this recipe as written and have used the method as written many times, but unlike some other reviewers I actually like it better with dry herbs (scaled down on the amounts, of course). When I've used fresh rosemary, it always seems burnt and bitter to me, in a bad way. I also prefer it without the vinegar, but that may be just me too. However you choose to tweak it and whichever vegetables you pick, it's still great and it always makes a great go-to side for pot-lucks.

Champagne Punch III

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
My husband and I brought this for a pot luck along with Kerri's Holiday Punch, also from this website. We both thought this one was good, but liked Kerri's better. However, we doubled this one and did not double Kerri's, but this one even doubled was gone first with everyone raving about it. Therefore, have to give it 5 stars.

Kerri's Holiday Punch

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
Really good! My husband and I brought this along with Champagne Punch III, also from this website to a potluck. We both loved and prefer this one and several people agreed, but Champagne Punch III did run out faster. I followed other suggestions and used pink lemonade. With everything mixed together, it comes out a pretty sunset color.

Artichoke & Spinach Dip Restaurant Style

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
Followed directions and suggestions using a refrigerated alfredo sauce and doubling the cream cheese and mozzarella cheese. It was good, but it wasn't the amazing restaurant quality some of the other reviews led me to believe it would be. I brought it to a potluck and half was still left at the end. I also had to increase the cooking time to about 45 minutes before cheeses were "melted and bubbly" but that may just be from the doubling.

Baked Ziti with Sausage

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
Nice, easy, quick dinner. I did as others and sauteed the onions and garlic with the sausage. I don't think I'd make this for company, but it made a great easy dinner for my husband and me. If I make it again, I'll probably use more cheese or decrease the amount of pasta.

Broccoli Beef I

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2010
Doubled the sauce as other reviewers did. This reminded me of the way my mom made stir fry in the 80s. Great for an easy dinner. 5 stars for nostalgia :)

Challah I

Reviewed: May 13, 2010
Followed suggestions from the top reviewer for this recipe who said he figured out how to "make it perfect." And, it came out perfect! This is the first time I've ever had bread rise correctly, look great, and taste great! Thank you!

Chicken Lo Mein

Reviewed: May 19, 2010
My husband said this seemed restaurant quality. I think the flavors are reminiscent of Chinese take out, but thankfully less bland than most. Followed some of the other reviews and used chicken thighs, added oyster sauce, bell pepper, and sauteed cabbage, used 1/4 the amount of water, substituted the sugar with honey, and used chow mien noodles instead of linguine. Left out the garlic (not on purpose!) but I think it was fine without it.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: May 21, 2010
Best recipe for teriyaki I've found! Not too sweet, not too acidic like so many others I've tried. I used brown sugar, powdered garlic (what I had on hand) and fresh ginger.

Rosemary Braised Lamb Shanks

Reviewed: May 24, 2010
This is amazing! I've never made lamb shanks before, but this came out perfect, nice and full-bodied. My husband loved it too and was disappointed there wasn't more lamb. I followed the recipe pretty close, other than halving it.

Buttery Corn Bread

Reviewed: May 31, 2010
I made this twice, once as written, once following other reviews and once subbing 1/3 cup of flour with 1/3 cup more of cornmeal. I definitely liked it better the second time. The second time I also made mini muffins instead of the sheet, it made 48 mini muffins and I used the leftover batter after that to make 7 regular muffins. I used goat milk both times because that's what we drink lately. Great recipe- brought it to a barbecue where it was the only thing completely devoured because people kept coming for 2nds, 3rds, and 8ths.

Honey Butter

Reviewed: May 31, 2010
Like others have said, perfect balance of honey and butter, finally! The Magic Bullet suggestion made this really easy. I used stick margarine from the fridge and just softened/ warmed in the microwave for a few seconds before adding honey. I brought this with Buttery Corn Bread from this site to a barbecue, and once the corn bread was gone, people put this on tortillas, scraping up every last bit in the bowl.

Amazing Whole Wheat Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2010
Very good! Has a nice bistro pizza flavor. I put this on the dough setting in the bread maker and subbed honey for sugar and added 1 tsp of Italian seasoning. I used King Arthur flours. I did preheat as others suggested before adding toppings and it came out great! After making 1 pizza, I still have more than enough dough for 1 regular or 2 personal pizzas.

Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2010
This is awesome for being thrown together with ingredients I had on hand. I used skim goat milk, whipped cream cheese, powdered Kraft Parmesan, and added Italian seasoning (literally what I had on hand). I followed Reg927s suggestions and it came out great. Oh, and it makes a lot more than 4 servings- there's a ton of leftover sauce, but that's okay, my husband said he's looking forward to leftovers!

Roasted New Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2010
I've made these several times since finding this recipe just a few weeks ago. I've made it with just new potatoes, but I think it tastes even better with a blend of new, purple and yellow tiny potatoes (they sell this blend at my neighborhood Whole Foods). I cut the potatoes into small pieces first, use Kosher salt instead of regular salt along with the ground pepper, high smoke point grape seed oil, and add a dry seasoning blend (Mrs. Dash garlic & herb goes great with these). This couldn't be much simpler, but the results are always fantastic!

Honey Wheat Sandwich Rolls

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2010
These rolls are wonderful! I usually add 1.5 tsp of yeast, but that's the only change. I get about 10 rolls out of this recipe if I make them larger for hamburgers/ sandwiches. This also makes great bread too if you let it complete the whole cycle. This is a wonderful, versatile recipe for all your bread-like needs. These kind of remind of the yeast rolls at some buffets.
