Quick Quiche

Cooking this right now - my kitchen smells awesome! I woke up this morning not in the mood for anything so I came to allrecipes for help. Needed a quick breakfast for me, 2 hungry kids and a always hungry hubby - this fit the bill. I omitted the bacon, made it completely vegetarian, adding a jalepeno and 1/4 c red bell pepper,and red onion; using Colby jack in place of swiss. 1/2 tsp salt instead of 1 tsp. I chose to use individual quiche/tart pans x 5 and the amount was perfect! Prep was easy, baking at the moment and I will post this review after my first bite: Good stuff! Yes, this is worth mincing up a couple veggies for. I think I will keep this in my monthly menu rotation for a quick breakfast (under an hour)

Chicago-Style Hot Dog

i didn't have poppyseed buns and was too lazy to make my own, desperate for the spicy deliciousness of this dog. YUMMO. Amazing. And I don't use that word-highly overused. perfect marriage of sweet,spicy,beefy yumminess. I ate 2. So good. My first experience with these was at a steak n shake/sonic visit a year ago and I loved the concept. I did add cucumber as a true Chicago dog boasts these tidbits, but beyond that - followed recipe to a T. Thank you. Craving fixed.

Sweet Avocado Ice Cream

First of all - wonderful taste- with changes. I tried it as written first time and it was good but modified it was better. There really is no need to whip cream prior to churning - the churn process adds air to the mix already and it is just an extra step. I whisked 1 cup cream into the avocado puree. I substituted one can coconut milk for the evaporated milk and added one cup of milk to the blender with the avocado, sugar and lime juice (which I reduced to 1/4 cup). I added 1 more cup milk directly to the saucepan making the custard, along with the coconut milk, condensed milk and 1 scraped vanilla bean. Taste was wonderful. I rated the recipe based on original. I rate it 4 stars with modifications.

Rockin' Salsa

As is, way too sweet for my taste, and not enough kick - albeit Tami did mention adjusting peppers to preference so I'm not rating based on that point. Good base recipe but like most others I modified it so much that I won't rate based on the changes, it defeats the purpose of rating! The flavor as written was balanced as far as salt to heat and if you were looking for a sweet salsa, this is your go to recipe. I think I'm going to write up my own recipe to post based on all the changes I made because quite frankly, in the end, this is the best salsa I have ever put in my mouth!

French Toast Casserole

As is, 3 stars. With modifications, 5. The idea is there - but I think there needs to be more clarity on the bread - esp for those who claimed mushy end results. Do not use white bread that is fresh - white bread is horrible- it practically dissolves when wet. Also the size of your cubes matter. Think large. I used challah bread (an egg bread). I've also used freshly made white bread from a bakery,which has more density, left out overnight to dry out a bit, and cubed 2 inch squares. Letting the mixed product sit out 10-30 minutes (in the fridge preferably) also helps ensure proper absorption, and reduces chance for sogginess. Increase your spices, adding nutmeg and 1 tsp more cinnamon, and sub brown sugar for white, increasing the depth of flavor to finished product. I found the end result much better than original, as I tried both.
