About this Cook
I love to cook. I started cooking when I was about 10, my mother taught me. It is really funny, because my one daughter says she never learned how to cook, cuz I always said "Get out of my kitchen." Now since we moved, I have a smaller kitchen and I am the same way, but now I tell my younger daughter, "It's a one butt kitchen, get out, lol". I like to teach, but I am very picky and like things done my way.
My favorite things to cook
I love making desserts and snacks for kids or parties. I need to learn how to frost cakes and decorate professionally.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother always made the best scalloped potatos and ham. Mine never turn out. I won a couple chili cook offs, using my mothers recipe, twanged it a little. I think it matters how you cut your celery and add mushrooms from time to time. I make homemade donuts in the deep fryer. My daughter loves my lasagna and it is sortof funny because I hate cheese. I mix my ricotta with egg and garlic, only use a little and I only like mozzerella. My mother also made devils food cake with cherrypie filling, I make that a lot, my kids love it.
My cooking triumphs
I have won two chili cookoffs and tied one year. I teach my kids from time to time, and I think my son was about 8 or 10 when he won runner up Grand Champion on his cupcakes and chocolate chip cookies.
My cooking tragedies
I almost burned down my kitchen when I was a nanny in my teens. Not paying attention and the hot oil for doughnuts almost started on fire. Lots of black smoke. Also, if you are anxious never put your dough to rise in a plastic bowl in a gas stove oven. I forgot it was in there, a couple hours later, my kids were hungry, so I turned on the stove to preheat for a pizza, started a fire, all the bowl melted all over the oven and started on fire.
