Absolute Best Pancake Syrup

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2014
I tried this yesterday for Shrove Tuesday. I figured if we are having pancakes for dinner let's do it right! The kids all LOVED this, me too!! If anyone has ever had those little cinnamon sticky pullaparts things at McDonalds, this tastes exactly the same. Now I want to make cinnamon roils and pour this over top.I subbed honey for the corn syrup and made sour milk with vinegar & milk( 1 TB vinegar plus milk to equal one cup total) instead of using buttermilk and it was awesome!!!!

Grandma Chase's Nanaimo Bars

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2013
I just made these for my family. Like what another reviewer said, I found it a little difficult to spread the bottom mixture into a 9"x13" pan, it's doable but not easy. The middle layer: I have made Nanaimo bars before using custard powder so I was reluctant to try these with pudding mix. I tasted it and added more because it just tasted like icing to me. If I were to make these again I would deffinately increase the chocolate topping by at least half as this too was nearly impossible to spread, it ended up swirling into the middle layer because it was so sparce to spread. All that being said, my husband & 4 kids all love these...and that's what really matters!!

Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2013
Just made this for dinner tonight and all 4 kids ages 8-12 loved it. Changes made were as follows: I used strained tomatoes, put in 14 oz, added the other 10oz to half broth & half water to make 8 cups, doubled the spices and carrots& added 1tsp of curry powder& balsamic . Didn't have any spinach so I left it out and it was still a hearty soup.Easy to make and easy to change it up to suit your taste.

Strawberry Spinach Salad I

Reviewed: May 8, 2012
I reviewed this recipe 6 years ago. I had made it for my twin daughters' baptism and adults and children both LOVED it.So easy to make and ecomonical too. Just made it again for their First Communion dinner and made at least 6 copies of the recipe to everyone who requested it. So yummy!! Only change I made was to use balsamic vinegar.

Easy Chicken Satay

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2012
OMG! The chicken alone was moist and delicious, paired with the sauce...WOW!! Made this with jasmine rice and used the sauce on the rice too.I made the recipe exactly as is and wouldn't change a thing. For those who say this is not like authentic satay, then call it "Yummy Chicken on Sticks"Bet this would be great with pork too1 Thanks for sharing Shannon!

Blonde Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2010
I followed this recipe to a T", minus the walnuts. It turned out reaaly weird.....like a thin hard crust on the outside and pudding inside.Tasted good, actually the taste was exactly what I was looking for.Seems to me it needs more flour..??

Gyros Burgers

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2009
I didn't want to make burgers, wanted more traditional Gyros so I used this recipe but the method from "Traditional Gyro Meat" to prepare the meat.It was really really yummy!!!Great blend of spices!!I just used about 1/8-1/4 cup of bread crumbs instead of toasting bread and making them.

Cheesy Breads

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2006
I was not pleased with my results. I was hopeful that it would be really yummy based on the reviews but , man, was I disappointed. I made it for our "Survivor" get together & it was hardly touched. The mayo made it really rich. I would say forget the mayo & ranch mix & used garlic butter on the bread, then the cheese , olives & green onions.

Dash's Donair

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2005
It seems some people are getting Gyros (Greek) mixed up with Donairs (Lebanese).I used to work in a Donair Shop in New Glasgow, N.S.& have never had anything even close to it here in Ontario. Two tips:1) mix the sauce as little as possible & slowly add the vinegar.2)moisten the pita with water & heat it up in a pan with some drippings from the meat.It should be baked on a rack in a pan.I usually make 5 lbs of meat at a time & freeze half for a donair pizza later.Pizza Delight, Cambridge,Ont. is the only place I've found that makes a decent donair like home!!!

Parmesan Tomatoes

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2005
This was really yummy!! The kitchen smelled so good while it was cooking!! The changes I made were as follows: omitted brown mustard, used fresh basil instead of parsely, sprinkled the s&p directly on the tomatoes & I used garlic mayo.I also broiled them for a minute to brown the top. Will deffinately make again!!

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2004
This was REALLY good.I was a little scared to stray from making a "traditonal" turkey & was sceptical about using minced onion & seasoning salt,I thought it would be a little overpowering but it was just great!!The gravy turned out awesome too & it made lots with all the water/boullion that was added.I will deffinately make it this way again!!Very delicious & subtle!!YUM YUM.

Incredible Punch

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2004
I made this punch on the weekend for a baby shower&,although I liked it,it was deffinately not a crowd pleaser like I had hoped based on all the great reviews.I think coconut is just one of those flavors people really like or hate, next time I will try it with a different drink mix or with sorbet.

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2004
YUMMY!!!! I followed the recipe exactly, adding 1 tsp vanilla as suggested, although I don't think it made much difference.I too used 1/2 brown sugar & 1/2 white for the topping & made only half.I got 7 big yummy muffins.I can't wait to try them with different things,i think I'll try jumbo chocolate chips next!!!We all loved them.

Fettuccini with Basil and Brie

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2004
This was yummy! I used goat cheese though because, although I love brie, I didn't know if I would like it in pasta.I found that simply tossing the noodles in the room temp"sauce" didn't make it hot enough so you may need to heat it through.

Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2003
I made this for a family Easter dinner yesterday & assembled it where we were having dinner, everyone was oohing & aahing over as it looked amazing & delicious. However, the cake itself was boring & bland.I would make this again with a regular 9" chocolate cake sliced horizontally for layers.Very disappointing taste!!!
