Man-Lovin' Potatoes

Reviewed: May 4, 2013
o good lord, spent twenty years looking for this. preference changes to suggest: drop the mayo and increase sour cream, or use blue cheese dressing or poppy seed dressing - have done all three double the onions and followed other folks suggestions about adding green onions as well. double the bacon, have done it with ham as well. I use russets, since thats what we raise. garlic is not used in my family, I have sprinkled some dried dill, which our family likes. the sharpest cheddar i can find for the cheese.

Cashew Sweet Potato Bake

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2012
I deleted the white sugar this rocks, largely because of the cashews. And personally, I bake the potatoes rather than boil. Different texture, my family thinks better flavor

Sweet and Spicy Stir Fry with Chicken and Broccoli

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2012
Jonathon is spot on - i used some left over pork roast, sauteed in worcestershire sauce. And, added some tinned crushed pineapple when i marinated - overnite - in the refrigerator. Outstanding basic recipe/starting point

All American Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2012
good starting point, like other reviewers i like to use ground pork as well as ground beef; ground lamb goes well. I noted that someone else used sour cream. Worcestershire sauce is good, as are some mushrooms, i use canned stems and pieces. a little ground cloves goes well, and i use more like a half cup of ketchup. nor do i use quick oats, regular works well. try a couple of tablespoons of stone ground mustard. top with molasses

Slow Cooker Cassoulet

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2012
reasonalbe starting place, i use red wine, whatever i'm going to drink for dinner. It needs another onion, it needs a pound of chunked carrots. I use beans soaked over nite, northern white usually, needs lots of spices, someone suggested tyme, excellent, sweet basil, rosemary - all good. it wont work without wine, i agree. I use chicken thighs, and lamb sausage or sweet Italian. Add some chopped celery in the last 30 minutes. and a can of tomatoes, whatever is in the cupboard. my favorite are stewed Italian. if you have time check the amount of juice in the last hour, this is not intended to be a stew, as others have noted. I have not seen an advantage to cooking this in a slow cooker over a slow oven. Unless you do not have an oven.

Easy Meatloaf

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2011
excellent starter recipe. crushed corn flakes work as well as bread, or oatmeal; try chili sauce in place of ketchup; more egg-less milk. OR sour cream. the mustard is an excellent touch. dust with ground cloves before adding sauce
