Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2013
I made this yesterday and it was a hit. I'll keep this recipe in mind this winter. I put the partially thawed chicken breasts in,threw the rest of the ingredients on top and just forgot about it till almost dinner time. I cut the biscuits in half, made sure they were covered with the liquid and was eating a half hour later. Sooo good! I did substitute chicken broth for the water and I found that it was just a bit on the salty side. I'll just use low sodium broth next time. So if you are using broth and not the added water, I'd make sure you don't add salt before tasting. This is a keeper for sure!

Sweet Potato Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2012
This chili was terrific! Wanting to use up some sweet potatoes and ground meat that I had in the freezer I searched for some crockpot recipes and found this one. I'm so glad I found it! A really good hearty chili that took very little prep time. Having 1lb of ground turkey in the freezer to use up, I used all of it and eliminated the ground beef. (only because I had 1lb of turkey meat) The cumin has such a distinct taste that I opted to just use 1/2 tsp instead of 1 tsp which I think was a good call. I put all BUT the meat and beans in and let it go for 3 hours then realised I had to leave the house and wouldn't be back in time to put the meat in when the recipe said. So.... I gave it a quick stir, added the browned turkey meat and covered it for the next 5 hrs until I got home. When I got back,I threw in the beans and shut the crockpot off. Within the next 20 min we were sitting down eating this really good chili! I suggest that you stir the ingredients only when you first put them in and not again until the meat and beans are added. Crockpot recipes are not generally intended to have the cover removed until the cooking time is up. I WILL be making this often and add the ground beef the next time to see how good that tastes! Perfect! A great spicey, flavorful and hearty dinner. Thanks for a really good recipe!
