About this Cook
I am married, have a 16-year-old daughter and an 18-year-old bonus son.
My favorite things to cook
Desserts since they're so yummy and casseroles as they're so easy! I also enjoy nightly dinners because each week I pick out a menu from my many cookbooks, so we rarely have the same thing twice in one month. It's fun to surprise my family and watch their enjoyment as they try new things. Recently I've gotten into making different kinds breads from scratch and found that I really love the entire process from kneading, seeing it rise, then the wonderful result that's pulled from the oven.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Swiss Steak. It's a recipe that's been handed down from mother to daughter for at least four generations. Also, meatloaf has become a surprising family favorite. I have a couple different versions, and the kids just adore them and there are never any leftovers. My husband and I find this so funny because as kids we HATED meatloaf, and on TV it’s always made fun of as well.
My cooking triumphs
Having my first turkey and pork loin turn out great, not to mention all the subsequent ones as well!
My cooking tragedies
When I was first learning to bake cookies, a couple of batches stand out in my memory. One batch was just awful due to accidentally putting in too much baking soda. The other spread out like Lake Cookie.

Broccoli Cheese Soup
Consistency and ratios were very nice, but it was missing flavor and really didn't taste all that cheesy.

Crab and Swiss Melts
These were so very good! The kids argued over who got the last few melts, right down to splitting the last one in half. Some people said there was too much cream cheese for the amount of crab, so I just added more until I thought it was a good ratio (used fake crab). Also added green onions as others suggested. Didn't have Swiss, so used a pre-shredded pizza mix of cheeses and that was quite good.

Spring Salad
This was SO GOOD!!!! Even my teen son who detests broccoli voluntarily went back for a second big helping. No better testament than that! Used cider vinegar since I didn't have white wine and it worked wonderfully. Used all red grapes since I didn't have green, and I think that worked well for color against all the other green veggies.
