it was pretty good, but more bland than i would have liked. i even up'd the seasonings by at least double, in some cases tripple.

Angel Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2003
Amazing, and i'm not always big on cream sauces. i took the advice of others and doubled the sauce, but not the seasoning packet to avoid saltyness. However, i did add more garlic and parsley so that i wasn't missing out on flavor (from not doubling the seasoning packet.) I added a bunch of sliced fresh mushrooms to the sauce before putting it in the oven as well because my roommates and i are mushroom lovers! -plenty- of sauce ended up being left over, maybe next time i'll 1 1/2 it instead of double. :) thanks Marian!

Hot Cocoa Mix in a Jar

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2003
This recipe saved me for Valentines Day! The gift i was planning on fell through last minute, so i needed something quick. I found a really adoreable jar at a craft store, and layered the ingredients inside. Because i did it in layers, i added a few ingredients for kicks, two layers of red sprinkles (just around the edje,) two layers of mini marshmellows, and one layer of miniature chocolate chips in the middle. (if you try this, make sure to -pack- down each layer before adding the next one!) I also used vanilla flavored creamer instead of plain for a little more depth. (also because i don't use plain creamer, and didn't want the extra on my shelf!) It turned out wonderfully! i topped it off with a dash of cinamon and tied a thick red ribbon around the lid. It's adoreable, and he'll love it! i mixed the extra ingrediants for myself and my roommates to enjoy (this recipe makes a TON!) and we love it. thanks!

Erica's Delicious Slow Cooker Beef Roast

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2003
fabulous! the roast was so juicy and tender it cut like butter. It made so much gravy, and the carrots were amazing! When it was done, we could have eaten 5 more! i served it with garlic mashed red potatos. yum yum! i think i added a little extra garlic and a couple stalks of celery as well. Thanks Erica!

it was pretty good, there were a lot of different flavors, and each of my roommates didn't like something about it, but said the rest was good. i added shrimp and left out the termeric because we couldn't find any...

Chicken Marsala

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2003
oh my gosh this dinner was amazing! Not only that, but incredibly easy. I made a few changes, as usual, and everyone -loved- the results. 1- To make it easier to clean up, i put the flour, salt, pepper, and oregano in a resealable plastic bag, then added the pounded chicken and shook it up (one breast at a time) to coat. It's just easier and cleaner that way. 2- When browning the chicken breasts, i added a few sliced cloves of garlic. mmm 3- I doubled the sauce, probably trippled the mushrooms (the more the merrier, right?) and then thickened it with a slurry (water-cornstarch mixture) at the end so we could enjoy it over the angelhair pasta i served it on. So good. 4- i added a splash of heavy cream and a splash of chicken broth to the sauce, to make it richer and creamier, like i'm used to Chicken Marsala being. as other users suggested, buy good Marsala wine. It's really not all that expensive, especially if you compare it to how much it costs to eat out at a nice italian restaurant. ;)

Orange Pork

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2003
i made this with chicken since i don't like pork. I used thigh meat, coated in flour. It was good, but not amazing. I also used more orange juice than shoyu like some users suggested.

Cuban Black Beans II

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2003
totally worth five stars, and i don't usually like black beans! But my boyfriend wanted to try some because we have been doing weight training and black beans have so much fiber without the load of carbs in bread. we both don't like peppers or pimentos, so i just left them out, and i used canned beans instead of dry. The trick to canned beans is to pick the low-sodium variety with the most spices already in it. (More flavorful beans, the usual is salt sugar and dehydrated onion, but if you can find canned beans with more than that they're even better!) I used two cans, drained, and DIDN'T ADD THE 5 CUPS OF WATER!!!! this is very important, as a few reviers have mentioned their beans came out watery. The water is to soak the dry beans in, and then to be drained off. If you need some extra liquid while cooking the beans, add a little chicken broth. (Or vegetable if you're vegetarian) :) It turned out -so- good, i'll be making them often! Thanks :)

Best Spanish Rice

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2003
tastey! i used pace picante sauce (salsa) and 1/2 brown rice and 1/2 white. Next time, i'll use all brown rice since it is so much healthier for you! We couldn't taste the dirty bland-ness of brown rice at all, the flavor was perfect. One thing to change however- it takes about 30 mins or so to simmer! It was the last part of our dinner to finish. ;)

Quick and Easy Pancit

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2003
pretty good! I did this one a while ago so i don't remember everything... but i remember that the lemon was an essential ingredient! It was so much better after we squeezed that sucker all over the meal. :) I think we added more vegetables than it called for, 'cause the more the merrier!

Chicken Hekka

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2003
delish! we added major vegetables though- sugar snap peas, bean sprouts, zucchini, celery, whole spinach leaves, garlic, tons of button mushrooms sliced thick, etc. We also used a larger portion of ginger and just sliced it into chunks, so that we didn't have to do all the grating, squeezing, and picking out of fibers. Too much work! ginger is cheap! Dont forget to soak the noodles (bring water to a boil, remove from heat and add noodles, drain them when you're done with everything else.) We'll be making this again!!!

Bessy's Zesty Grilled Garlic-Herb Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2003
definately delish. I normally don't like anything charred, but the "char" is just carmolized sugar... it's my new favorite marinade. We barbequed chicken and had it as a main corse, and i also have used the George Foreman to cook the chicken in this marinade and then sliced it up for salads. Highly recomended :)
