Straccetti

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2004
I've been making this recipe for about five years now- it's one of our favorites. The sauce is thin- and is absorbed wonderfully into fresh pasta. It's a light dish, so if you're looking for a heavy, saucy pasta dish this isn't what you're looking for! The flavors are so complimentary - it's just delicious! I always use button mushrooms (cheaper) and have used both red and white wine- both are marvelous. Always add garlic, however!

Chicken Tortilla Soup III

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2004
this is GREAT tortilla soup! Next time i will try it with shredded tortillas instead of tortilla chips. I added avocado and a dollop of sour cream to the top of each bowl. We froze the left overs in a zip-lock and it was just as tasty the seccond time around! Thanks! We'll be making this one again!

Spicy Crispy Beef

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2004
this was pretty good! I have to admit, i didn't really follow directions.... but this recipe gave me the main idea. I don't own a deep-fryer (helloooooo fatty!) so i saute'd the beef with a touch of olive oil. It also didn't come out very spicy at all, so i added jalapeno powder and ground mustard. It might not have been spicy because i didn't have chili paste, so i used tomato paste mixed with a gourmet chili powder. (guess i didn't use enough chili powder?) I also added extra garlic. I wanted enough sauce to pour over rice, so i doubled the sauce (except the sugar) and i was glad i did! 1.5 x the sauce probably would have been sufficient. I'm glad i didn't double the sugar, however, because it was sweet anyway.

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2004
so good :) Just like my old recipe that i had lost, except it's missing my secret ingredient that gives it a big bang! My favortite dish with this sauce is linguine, diced chicken, broccoli flourettes, and quartered mushrooms. yum!

Apricot Chicken II

okay, but nothing i'd make again. I cooked it less than the alloted time, but it was still a little dry and bland.

Glazed Meatloaf II

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2003
excellent for meatloaf. I've never been a big fan, but this i liked! I also added a little garlic like a lot of other reviewers, and pulverized the onion in my food processor. Worked like a charm!

Cindy's Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2003
edible, but not a good pumpkin pie. Maybe because i'm comparing it to grandmas... but it was just too eggy and fluffy for my liking. I was really excited about the icecream idea, but it made the pie to fluffy. I had no problems with it separating like some reviewers did, and i did everything the recipe called for. Everyone ate it and said it was pretty good, but i think it was politeness because i hated it! However, i am a -huge- fan of pumpkin pie so maybe i don't like it just because it's not how i'm used to pumpkin pie. It was worth a shot, but i'm sticking with my old recipe.

Beef Stroganoff III

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2003
i love this recipe. I'm not a fan of big sloppy beefy noodly dishes, so even thinking about making this one, i'm never excited about it. But once it's done and on my plate, i can't stop sopping up all the sauce! It's fabulous. Everytime i've made it for guests they've loved it. Thanks for a keeper :)

Cajun Red Snapper

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2003
fairly bland, but maybe that's just the type of fish? It was good, but not delicious. My boyfriend who doesn't care for fish was able to eat it.

Acorn Squash

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2003
i added sliced fresh apples half way through, and sprinkled a little cinnamon with the brown sugar. Mmm... the smell of baked apples... I also was just cooking for myself tonight, so i froze half the uncooked squash and just made half. (with half the butter and brown sugar, of course!)

Pico de Gallo Chicken Quesadillas

Yum! We actually didn't have any jack cheese, so we used a combination of mozzerella and cheddar, 'cause they were in the fridge! It was still wonderful. And the plate trick saved us!

Key West Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2003
we used this marinade for shish-ke-bobs, and it was wonderful. In truth, the beef actually took to it better than the chicken! All was wonderfully moist with just a hint of flavor. I marinated overnight.

Oriental Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2003
delicious dressing, i havent' acutally made the "salad" but i used the dressing part of it for my own oriental chicken salad- which is more like a regular green salad but with ramen noodles crunched on top and grilled chicken. We poured this dressing on top because the grocery store was out of our favorite brand. This one beat it! We'll never buy again :) Thanks!

Divine Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2003
...not the greatest i've ever had, i may try it again but with several modifications! I'm guessing that all the people here who have RAVED over this "devine" sauce have never had homemade spagetti sauce before! Of course it's better than a jar, haha, but i've had better. It ended up rather thick and i added broth and red wine, which helped both texture and flavor, but it needs something else......

Bessy's Zesty Grilled Garlic-Herb Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2003
definately delish. I normally don't like anything charred, but the "char" is just carmolized sugar... it's my new favorite marinade. We barbequed chicken and had it as a main corse, and i also have used the George Foreman to cook the chicken in this marinade and then sliced it up for salads. Highly recomended :)
