To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2012
I made these for breakfast because we had some blueberries that needed eating. The recipe as stated made 4 jumbo muffins (without spilling out much over the top of the tin, even after being cooked). The streusel topping caramelized and burned where it touched the pan--I think next time I make this (and I will!!) I'll wait until about halfway through the baking before adding the topping to prevent any repeat of this.

Colcannon

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2012
This was a great recipe--the leeks taste great in it! I didn't use all of the green parts of the leeks because I was making this late at night for a potluck the next day and I didn't want to wait for the thick parts of the leeks to soften enough to be edible. I just added some extra cabbage instead and it was delicious! I'd recommend using big cracked pepper to season this.

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
I made this for Thanksgiving this year. Instead of using plain bread, I used Stovetop cornbread stuffing and then added the rest of the ingredients, extra stock and put it in the oven in its own dish (instead of stuffing the turkey). I also made my own turkey sausage, following the instructions left by another reviewer since I don't eat pork. The stuffing ended up being delicious!

Absolutely Delicious Green Bean Casserole from Scratch

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
This was very good and very rich. If I made it again, I'd add more salt. This was good enough to make me forget the green beans were frozen, though!

Southern Candied Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
These were pretty simple to make. Mine cooked unevenly, but I'm sure that's just cook error (I'm still new to cooking!). I don't know how anyone could have a pan big enough for this recipe...my biggest skillet barely held half the recipe.

Cranberry Oat Bars

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
I made these following the recipe exactly. The oat part was definitely floury. I think doubling the cranberry portion would've helped, and possibly adding more butter or something to moisten up the crust/topping. My topping was powdery instead of crumbly. However, the overall taste was good and my husband ate most of the batch. He said it's like a cranberry version of one of those fruit/grain bars you get at the grocery store.

Dad's Leftover Turkey Pot Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
I made this last night--it was super easy and MUCH tastier than the frozen pot pies you get at the store. I used a mix of cubed white meat turkey and shredded turkey leftover from boiling the turkey carcass. It's super flavorful!

Chicken In Basil Cream

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2011
I'm learning how to cook, so this was ambitious for me! I made this for my husband--I made a little extra sauce and served it with pasta. The sauce tasted great on the pasta! One tip--pounding the chicken a bit to make it more even would help. It doesn't need to be scallopini-thin or anything, but the breading would have cooked more evenly if the chicken weren't thick on one side and thinner on the other.

Spicy Orange Beef

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2011
I'm new to cooking and decided to give this a try, since it's pretty simple. This is a delicious recipe. I omitted the garlic (I'm allergic) and it was still soooo tasty! It's rare to find a recipe for Asian-style food that still has a lot of flavor without the garlic. The first time I made it I didn't have cornstarch and tried using flour instead. That didn't work...I invested in some corn starch and it made the sauce thick and perfect! This also tastes great with chicken.
