About this Cook
I usually work too long to make the meals. My hubby does most of it. But before we married, I was responsible for myself. I do love to cook, when I'm not too tired. I'm a sucker for ethnic food and comfort foods.
My favorite things to cook
I love to make breakfast. It's my favourite meal and the family loves it when I go all out.
My favorite family cooking traditions
So many! Two grandmothers were a wealth of good food and recipes to us. Coffee Cloud cake, spudnuts, apple pie, potato salad and biscuits. OOh and homemade pickles. Boy I sure do miss those.
My cooking triumphs
Double chocolate cheesecake in my twenties. Now I can't be bothered, too much work. But the girls love my sauerkraut salad and I did well with the Gazpacho the first time I made it!
My cooking tragedies
Not realizing the heat of a Scotch Bonnet pepper, never mind four of them! or more! I made a meal with them, I got the juice in my eye, and the food was unpalatable. I felt so despondent and blind after that one!

Fettuccine with Sweet Pepper-Cayenne Sauce
We make this recipe with slices of our favourite sausage added! I will also add whatever veggies I have going: asparagus, mushrooms, zuchinni, etc. Love this recipe and we also will change up the pasta to ravioli, tortellini, and other short pastas. delicious!

Feta Eggs
I did try this recipe, but eggs are so adaptable, and I was missing the tomato, so I changed it up. I grated a bit of zucchini, sliced one mushroom, chopped a green onion and added a wee bit of dried chili pepper flakes and sauteed the veggies in olive oil. Then added the eggs. Then the feta. Basically it turned into a scrambled omelet. It was divine!

Creamy Drunken Mushroom Pork Chops
I had only four hours to whip this up in the crock pot so I put it on high for 6 chops. I added Worcestershire sauce to the mix because it goes so well with pork. We adore garlic so there were five smaller cloves minced instead of just two. I also like spice so I added some Montreal steak spice and put the pepper all over the chops. I finely chopped onion and the mushroom (to hide it from the 12 year old) and topped the meat with it and poured the sauce over it. It made such a lovely juice, I strained the liquid and made a gravy from it. Both dad and son gave me thumbs up. Deelish!
