Sangria! Sangria!

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2011
This recipe is fantastic! We tripled this for a party of about 12 people and had to make another batch when it ran out. DEFINITELY use the sugar, but we didn't change a thing and it was perfect.

Basic Vegetable Stock

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2011
Perfect stock base. I've tried many other stock recipes on here and they all smelled terrible and tasted strange. All I added to this was some Swiss Chard it it took this amazing stock over the top.

Basic Beef Stock

Amazing stock. Roasting everything in the oven gives it a fantastic, rich flavor. I will never used store-bought stock again.

Bacon Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2011
This is a very tasty recipe; however, in regards to the dumplings, DO NOT USE THE AMOUNTS CALLED FOR! It creates a batter rather than the sticky dough needed to make a traditional dumpling. Follow the instructions on the box of biscuit mix and they'll come out perfectly.

Buffalo Chicken Salad

Reviewed: May 2, 2012
Excellent flavor, but WAY too much ranch! A 50-50 ratio of ranch to hot sauce works better otherwise all you taste is ranch.

Beef and Irish Stout Stew

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2012
Fantastic recipe! We made it for an Irish-themed party and it was gobbled up. The taste is rich from the beer and it's more like a soup if you let it simmer with the lid on the entire time (we took the lid off for the last 30 minutes which helped thicken it a little). I would also recommend making it the night before for an even richer flavor. If you like spicy you can put a few drops of Tabasco in your bowl (don't put it in the stew; the longer you have it the spicier it will get so Tabasco to taste when it's fresh means inedibly hot in a day or two). Definitely needs more salt that the pinch the recipe calls for so I'd say use salt to taste instead.

Quinoa with Chickpeas and Tomatoes

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2011
Nice vegetarian side dish. The tomatoes make for a potent acid taste, but I think a little extra salt and pepper would take care of that. If you have vegetarian friends surprise them with this dish rather than copping out with a salad for them.

Texas Hash

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2011
A very good base recipe to add whatever you want. We replaced instant rice with regular (keep in mind instant rice requires 1:1 ratio where regular rice is 2:1 water and rice). We also used cheddar instead of that nasty processed American cheese stuff and added Tabasco Chipotle for a little heat. The dish also could use some texture so we'll try crumbling tortilla chips over the top next time, but I could see Fritos going nicely on top if you're into that.

Spaghetti Sauce with Ground Beef

Reviewed: May 16, 2011
An excellent simple sauce. We added more garlic and used a large white onion because we love both and it was perfect.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

An amazing side dish. The cheese sauce is so fantastic we plan to keep it as a separate recipe for other dishes.

Jalapeno Corn Bread

Very flavorful recipe, but watch your cooking time as they get dry fast. Terrific with a pipping hot bowl of chili.

Spicy Black Bean Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2013
Way too salty and calls for the tomatoes to be added at the beginning which messes up the cooking process for dry beans. The broth had a nice flavor under the saltiness, but the salt definitely makes it inedible.
