Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2011
tips: put dough in freezer for a couple hours and then refrig in between batchs or you'll have a gooey mess on your hands! Wasn't happy with the cookies the 1st day I made them, but the next day they tasted better. Dough is difficult to work with though so not sure I will fight with it again.

Bacon Water Chestnut Rolls

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2009
I have been making these for about 25 years now and I've always used BBQ sauce instead of the other suace provided here. I wrap them ahead of time in the bacon and put in frig because I usually make about 100 of these at a time! I never have leftovers either! Delicious!

Baked Potato Soup V

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2008
delicious soup! I did use some vegetable broth to get it to my desired consistancy as well as chopped up some carrots and celery very finely just to add a little extra nutrition for the kids. Everyone enjoyed it, even my picky kids! Served it with crusty bread! A delicious hearty tummy warming soup! I'll make this often!

Extremely easy and great recipe. My kids and I thought it needed a bit more cheese..so maybe next time 8 oz instead of 6 oz. but oh yes I can see using this for many different meals. thanks!

Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2007
I'm giving this 5 stars because of MY adjustments on it and how it turned out. I read other reviews and after seeing the recipe I decided to use my own judgment and taste buds. 1st I added to the meat mixture 1/2 small onion minced, and 1 clove garlic minced, upped the bread crumbs a bit to 3/4 cup sprinkled with garlic and onion powders, salt and pepper. For the sauce, I used french onion soup and golden mushroom soup...minus the 1/3 cup french onion for the meat mixture. I added 1/3 can of water and 1/3 cup of 1/2 and 1/2 cream to the sauce as well. It was outstanding! Tasted like salisbury steak shouldI have never tasted a salisbury steak with ketchup in it...save that for meatloaf! try my version and I am sure you'll love it..I have 2 very picky children who usually turn their noses up to anything but hamburgers and mac and cheese and they kept saying "mom this is really good!" I will definitely make MY version again! My ex husband stopped by and ate with us and even HE said this was "awesome"...and you know how hard it can be to get a compliment out of an ex! LOL

Banana Split Cake III

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2007
made this for my daughters birthday. Everyone said too much cake. Mom and mother in law said they have this recipe and it calls for 1 jiffy yellow cake mix...which is much smaller. Will try that the next time as I agreed with all too much cake. Will use banana pudding instead as well and cut whipped topping in 1/2 since this seemed like overkill on the cake. Used the juice from the crushed pineapple to mix with pudding which helped with flavor and topped with sliced strawberries and drizzled with chocolate sundae syrup and chopped pecans. Still good flavor all in all...but how can you go wrong with bananas, pineapple, strawberries and whipped cream!?

Russian Tea Cakes I

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2005
I've been making these for about 20 years now and they are one of my favorites! I use pecans instead of walnuts just to give them a little sweter flavor...they are excellent with coffe and tea! These store well and last long so can be made ahead of time for the holidays.

Potato Casserole II

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2005
I make this every christmas and it's always loved by all. I use "ore-Ida potatoes O'brien" instead of hash browns,(they give it extra flavor with the red and green peppers and onions) velveeta cheese and cheese potato chips on top. It's a great dish and very easy to prepare ahead of time... top with the melted butter and crushed potato chips just before baking.

Luscious Spinach Artichoke Dip

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2005
This is just like my favorite at a local restaurant that recently closed. I'd been searching for one with cream cheese in it like theirs. This is so close! The only thing I thought this was missing was a bit of salt. I'm not a fan of salt either...but when I tasted it..it just seemed a little bland so a pinch of salt helped. I also topped it with fresh grated parmesan cheese and let it melt and stirred it in and served with sliced sourdough baguettes. YUM! I'll make this often.

Bacon Wrapped Smokies

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2005
these are addictive! Use 1/2 strip of bacon per smokie..this is plenty! Also, for easy cleanup use parchment paper on cookie sheets. These can be rolled ahead of time but NOT sugared..it will melt and then burn when they cook.

Best Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2005
I don't know about anyone else but mine NEVER came to a ball...I was very hesitant after that about this recipe...but went ahead and finished it. I refrigerated it for about 2 hours and then frosted cake with it. It wasn't a very sweet frosting which I liked...and once my cake was served...I got HUGE raves!!

Easy and Tasty All-Purpose Marinade

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2003
I'm giving this a 4 star only because I've had my own version of this for a long time and I think it's better. Try using equal amounts of soy sauce, olive oil and LIME JUICE instead of the water. This is an outstanding marinade for ANY type of meat...also use the LIGHT SOY SAUCE for a less salty taste and don't marinade for more than a couple hours...ENJOY the raves!!

Baked Potato Soup I

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2003
This soup is WAY TOO THICK. It gets almost like a paste after sitting for just 5 minutes. You should expect to add an additional 2-3 cups of liquid and I highly suggest chicken broth to add some flavor and salt content. My husband and 3 year old didn't like it but I thought once thinned it was tasty. I'll make again but will add more liquid and salt from the get go!
