Howdy from Denver,I have returned to civilization and my internet connection. The trip was great but it is so good to be back home and have the modern conveniences at my fingertips once again. The Roundup dates span from February 22nd to February
26th and the main event will be on Saturday…
I had the joy of coming from a big family with 11 aunts and uncles. Every holiday event was a time to cook and share with each other. On Thanksgiving we had 58 family members, Christmas Eve would be 38 people and on Christmas morning we would see an additional 32 family members. They have all passed now but the joys and memories live on. I now cook for my 311 neighbors in downtown Denver whenever I am in town and each time I serve them, all of the joy and wonderment of my family history is brought back to life. LLL productions means Live, Love, Laugh productions. I started this as an extension of my passion for life and my way of sharing with others.
My favorite things to cook
My favorites are any dish that sounds good and I have not given it a go yet. The new ideas and variety is what keeps me coming back for more.
My favorite family cooking traditions
All time favorite is my ham & cheddar strata and sausage & mozzarella strata. These are number one because on Christmas Eve, my Great Aunt Aleda and I would prepare these dishes for Christmas morning. I have had the pleasure of making this same dish for the last 35 years.
My cooking triumphs
My cooking triumph has to be the night I had some friends over to have a glass of wine while I prepared the meal that I would serve to my neighbors for Saturday breakfast the following day. While I was preparing the food to feed 100 people, I started throwing together an appetizer that my friends could nosh on while I was chopping ingredients. Do to my enjoyment of the wine that night, the appetizer began with phyllo dough but everything was what ever I touched in my refrigerator. I didn't keep track of what all went inside and I've never been able to recreate it but the results of living in the moment and going with what felt right is what gave me the inspiration for Live, Love, Laugh Productions. The greatest thing about seizing the moment is that any outcome exceeds what was expected.
My cooking tragedies
I reached in to pull out a roast I was browning under the broiler and branded both of my forearms on the tender side palms up. Laughing now, not funny then.
