Rolo®-Filled Chocolate Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2014
These were delicious even without rolling in sugar but on about 1/3 of mine the caramel popped out of the bottom of the cookie which was disappointing.

Chocolate Turtle Cheesecake I

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2014
The prep on this recipe takes far longer than 30 minutes. Seriously unwrapping all the caramels was a good 10 minute job. I used graham crackers for the crust and found the caramel to be very runny. I never bake my cheesecakes in a water bath and they generally do not crack (this one didn't). While my husband enjoyed this recipe for his birthday I doubt I will be making it again as I think the other turtle cheesecake recipe on this site turns out far better.

Sourdough Bread I

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2014
I used sourdough starter by Esther Nelson also on this site. I let the dough rise with the light on in my oven for 13 hours on the first rise and 5 hours on the second rise. Baked at 300 for 30 minutes as my circa 1961 oven runs a little hot. I was a little nervous as I had never made sourdough bread before, but this recipe turned out 2 fantastic loaves! Had a subtle sour taste, not too sweet as other reviewers had mentioned. Can't wait to make this recipe again as I think spending a short amount of time making bread over several days is easier to manage with young kids than spending a larger amount of time in one day.

Cucumbers with Dressing

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2014
This is exactly what I was looking for to use a bunch of cucumbers from the garden. I added a small white onion little less sugar. Very refreshing!

Great Grandma Johns' Pasties

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2013
Just made this recipe yesterday and did the pastry from scratch as per the recipe. I also added carrots. I would have given this 5 stars if the recipe included gravy. For those of us not eating this dish in a coal mine, I think gravy would have really helped enhance the recipe as the inside was really moist, but the outer crust could use something to dip in. I will make it again!

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2012
I added 1/2 a cup of celery and a minced clove of garlic to the soup. I also did not peel all of the potatoes and sprinkled the top with cheese. Turned out fantastic!

Lamb with Sauteed Veggies

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2012
Added an extra tablespoon of dijon to the sauce and only salt and peppered to taste. I love the sauce with this dish! I am going to make the veggies more often even without the lamb!

Boeuf en Croute

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2011
Great dish! I use crescent rolls as opposed to pastry puff for a richer and fluffier crust. I have also substitued white onion for the shallot or left the shallot out altogether and both worked wonderfully.

Pignoli Cookies I

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2011
These cookies are fantastic! Beware that pine nuts currently cost $5 per half cup! I ended up baking mine for closer to 25 minutes and they came out perfect.

Turtle Cheesecake

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2011
No matter how tempting you really need to refrigerate before serving to keep the layers together. Top with drizzled chocolate and chopped pecans. Very rich and creamy!!!

Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2011
I tried to microwave the cabbage instead of boiling it as suggested by other reviewers which left the cabbage far too crisp. I also tried baking as suggested which didn't work for me either. Adding a small can of tomato sauce to the filling made the filling more flavorful. In the future I may try using the extra large can of tomato soup as there did not seem to be enough sauce to cover the rolls. Other than these issues this dish was tasty with pierogis and kraut!

I added fresh garlic to the skillet when browning the chicken for added flavor. Quick, easy and got great reviews from everyone at dinner!

Italian Fig Cookies II

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2011
My secret is to add the grated rind of an orange to the dough and a shot of spiced run to the fig filling. These cookies are labor intensive, but fantastic. They remind my dad of the fig cookies my Italian grandma used to make when he was growing up. Family, friends and co-workers look forward to these fig cookies every Christmas and ask for them year round!
