Fresh Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: May 27, 2014
I'm happy to have found this recipe, as I've had it on several occasions at bbq parties. Now I can make my own. Thanks. The only thing I changed was to reduce the sugar to 1/4 cup - otherwise it would be on the dessert table.

Ultimate Chocolate Dessert

Absolutely divine! This is the best desert ever. Chef John you are a genious. I did make one change though by adding a single espresso instead of instant coffee and using 50 ml less cream. It still set beautifully.

Deluxe Waffles

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2013
Delicious! They are crispy on the outside, beautifully light and tasty. For the reviewers that did not have success with this recipe, here are some suggestions: do not overbeat or over mix - not when you mix the yolk/milk mixture with flour and again not when you fold in the egg white. Thanks for posting, this is my new favorite waffle recipe.

French Toast Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2013
There is no need to change this recipe. All the ingredients except for the margarine are good. I used butter instead. I used 3 day old home made whole wheat bread that nobody wanted to eat(except maybe the dog). However it worked perfectly (with Crusts) in this dish. It baked perfectly with the divine sugar/cinnamon crust, and no soggy middle. No one in family knew that it was the old hard bread I used. I served this with a sauce I made from fresh black and blue berries, and cream. My kids said it was one of the best breakfasts ever and we should have it more often. Thanks for sharing !! Its so so good -

Mrs. Sigg's Fresh Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2013
This is the best pumpkin pie I've ever tasted. Fortunately I read other reviews, and did not stress when the filling was incredibly runny before putting the pie in the oven. It baked to perfection. - Normally I need to amend new recipes that I try, but this one I followed to the letter and it was truly perfect. Thanks for sharing this fab recipe.

Apfelkuchen (Apple Cake)

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2013
This is without a doubt the best apple cake I've baked; and yes it tastes just like the 'Apfelkuchen' you'd find in Germany. The only change I made was to substitute freshly grated lime zest for the candied peel, as I don't like candied peel, and I used 4 apples instead of 3. Next time I will bake it at 390' F for 40 minutes, and definitely bake it on the middle shelf of the oven as it baked a bit dark underneath.- although this could be due to my new oven that I'm still getting used to. Thanks for sharing this fabulous recipe!

Gravlox

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2013
This was very good. Firstly, if you changed the spelling of the name of this recipe to "grav lax" or "gravad lax" more people could find it and make it! I made it first time exactly as per recipe. Second time with less salt, and it was much better. I used 2/3 cup of sugar to 1/3 cup of salt - for 4 pound of salmon. The pepper, vodka and dill were perfect. Also you can leave it in the fridge to cure for up to 5 days. Delicious, thanks for posting.

Krispies* Caramel Popcorn

Reviewed: May 9, 2013
These make the best lunch box snacks, and so easy to make with ingredients I always have at hand. I use light corn syrup instead of golden syrup, and I omit baking soda - as these don't need to rise (can't see the use for this ingredient). The result is always a winner- not only with the kids. Thanks for posting!

Crispy Almond Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2012
Yes, I'm an Almond lover- so I had to try these cookies. These are easy to make, with ingredients I always have on hand. If you can use natural almond extract the cookie will taste better- 1/2 teaspoon is enough. I also omitted the 'Cream of Tartar' as I don't like its taste. (Cream of Tartar makes cookies crispy), but mine came out perfectly without . Also I did not brush the cookie with egg white nor sprinkle it with sugar. For the rest I followed the recipe exactly - the end result was a super heavenly crispy almond cookie! Thanks Joy.

Best Carrot Cake Ever

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2012
I made 2 changes : 1) left out the raisins, and 2) drained the pineapple. It was not necessary to squeeze out the carrots. I used 2 round 10" cake pans. If you can buy finely shredded carrot, do it, as grating 6 cups is really a lot of effort. The cake baked perfectly. This is a wonderfully/delicious cake, and has become my husbands' favorite (who does not have a sweet tooth). Thanks for an awesome recipe!

Pumpkin Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2012
These were wonderful - no changes in the ingredients necessary. In the method I took a shortcut by putting all ingredients except for the flour and baking powder into a food processor and blitzed it for 30 seconds. Then I added the flour and baking powder and blitzed for about 20 sec's. - Now they were ready to fry. Quick easy and very tasty! My family loved it. Thanks for posting.

Country Apple Dumplings

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2012
Made this last night and I just LOVED the buttery flavour, and could not stop eating - I had seconds for desert which I never do, but these Apple dumplings are heavenly . The only thing I would change next time I make these, is use 1/3 less sugar. Also I used 7up as I had no Mountain Dew. Who would have thought of pouring a can of soda over anything before baking? but it works beatifully. Thanks so much for posting this amazingliy easy recipe.

Chef John's Baked Eggs

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2012
Easy and divine! I made two changes though. 1) to make these in individual ramekins - makes it easy to serve and it looks fancy....and 2) I placed a slice of ham over the tomato sauce and then broke the egg into it - adding cream etc on top of it. Thanks John for this tasty dish.

Grilled Salmon I

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2012
I made this last night and it was superb! My entire family loved it! The changes I made: Added juice of one lime and I omitted the garlic as it takes away too much of the Salmon flavour. While I grilled the Salmon, I boiled the marinade/reduced it by half, which made an awesome sauce over the mashed potatoes served with the Salmon.

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2012
I have baked this cake twice now, and both times it cracked...but as per other reviews , "thats what fruit puree is for". My family was split on the taste, Kids loved it but my husband needed more 'umpf'. So I added the juice of one lemon, and this did the trick for him!. For me this cake is divine as is, even with cracks. Thanks Chantal.

Chef John's Buttermilk Biscuits

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2012
This is a great recipe! I did not change any of the ingredients, but in the directions I put the flour and ice cold butter into a foodprocessor and blized it together for about 30 seconds- (Much easier than cutting it in) Then I continued as directed. The biscuts still came out light and flaky.
