I can see how these would be a 4-star treat if they held sentimental value for somebody who grew up eating them. As somebody who had never heard of a nanaimo bar, I just saw the great reviews and thought they looked good. They were kind of a let-down, I must say. With all the different flavors nothing really stood out...I could barely taste the chocolate in the crust even though I am picky and buy a very expensive and high-quality cocoa powder. The crust is somewhat dry and slightly resembles american "no bake" cookies. the topping is akin to american buttercream topped with ganache. Can't go wrong with ganache, but I wish I had just made brownies instead! The best part about them was they looked pretty- I piped the chocolate on top in zig-zags and cut them with a warm hot knife and they looked much better than they tasted!

Amish Friendship Bread I

This bread tastes like an average muffin. My bread was done in about 20 minutes, not the suggested 50! It was a bit dry, and it was lacking something- maybe it would be good with chopped apples in it? My kids gobbled it up! But then again, they like anything sweet!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

you might want to put these in a smaller pan (maybe 9 x 13) or as other reviewers said, make 2 batches instead of three with the recipe as written. As written, the bars were too thin. I couldn't even make the dough spread to reach the pan's edges, so the edges got a bit too brown before time was up. They were yummy- they taste like a standard chocolate chip cookie. yum! Also- I cut down on the butter by a few tablespoons.

Cinnamon Rolls I

I used my favorite sweet dough recipe with the caramel glaze recipe listed. It was fabulous! I was worried it would make the rolls soggy. It didn't. next time I will increase the caramel sauce. I also added pecans in the pans- delicious!

Cilantro Chicken Salad

This was somewhat edible. I love lime, cilantro, garlic, and chicken salad. I ended up making just a little bit of this and trying it before I added the dressing to all of my chicken (i was a bit skeptical- thankfully!). It just wasn't good. I used the rest of the chicken for regular chicken salad (with mayo)

Pumpkin Bars

They are kind of cake-like, but I didn't think of that as a bad thing. I thought these bars had the perfect balance of pumpkin, spices, and sugar.

Thai Pineapple Chicken Curry

excellent- even though I used regular, un-concentrated curry paste, I only used 4 T and I thought it was just the right amount of spiciness. still left my mouth burning. Chicken only took 6 mins to cook, next time I will put veggies in at the same time. Don't want to cook chicken to death. I cut the sugar to just 2 Tablespoons. Still it turned out fab. rave reviews from all 4 of us who ate it. Just like my fav. thai restaurant.

Lemon Cream Cheese Frosting

French Toast I

mmmm. perfect. I used stale french bread. Don't cut it too thick- up to about 3/4 inch and it will cook all the way through! Use stale bread or put your slices in the oven for a few mins to dry them out a bit. The nutmeg was delicious in this recipe. Butter your pan so it doesn't stick!

Easy Key Lime Pie I

I tried this with 4 yolks and with 5. It was more velvety with 5. Make sure you bake it for at least 15 minutes. Definitely a keeper. Rave Reviews and it only took 5 minutes and one bowl.

Spicy Garlic Lime Chicken

what i changed: -used only 1/2 the broth -coconut milk instead of cream -cilantro instead of dill -added a little cayenne for some spice delicious!

Beef Peach Pie

This was good, because I like meatloaf, but it didn't stand out among meatloaves. The peaches go well with ground beef, it's true, but I think I like regular meatloaf better. IT was a nice change, however.

Best Brownies

i left out the baking powder and added chocolate chips plus a couple extra tablespoons of chocolate. A delicious, chewy, gooey brownie. It was great with ice cream. Mine needed to be baked for an extra few minutes, and it was still kind of gooey.
