Super Easy Stir-Fried Cabbage

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2013
Simple and amazing! I needed something to balance out my dinner of dumplings and rice, and this was the perfect thing. It'd be even better with a little shredded carrot for color.

Gingered Mango Salsa

The balance of flavors is just perfect, and it freezes very well. So nice when you need something convenient and healthy. Great on pork chops!

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Absolutely fabulous. I served a batch I had frozen to visiting relatives and they said it tasted like it came from a restaurant.

Dough Ornament Recipe

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2012
I used this recipe to make handprint Santas for my 12-month-old twins, and it turned out really well! I used a kitchenaid for the kneading, which saved a lot of work. I had to add a little more flour than was listed and the dough was still a tad sticky...refrigerating the dough, patting our enough for one ornament by hand rather than rolling all the dough, and oiling my boys' hands before making the prints really helped. I finished them with acrylic paint and a coat of mod podge and they look great.

Caesar Salad Supreme

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2012
I followed the directions completely for half of the recipe, and used minced capers in place of the anchovies for the other half since my husband is allergic to fish. Both were excellent!

Black Beans

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2012
I loved the flavor of these beans, but they came out so tough. I used dried beans, and knew enough to leave the salt until the end, but forgot about the vinegar. Acidity makes uncooked beans tough! From what I can tell, a lot of people who have rated this recipe highly have used canned beans or left out the vinegar, and followed another user's suggestion to salt at the end. Next time, I'm going to try leaving -both- the salt and the vinegar out until the beans are cooked.

Banana Oat Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2011
These have a great flavor, but the butter seemed a little fussy for a muffin recipe. Next time I'm using melted butter and leaving the hand mixer in the cabinet. (I used melted butter for the topping and it came out fine.) I'll also cut it down to one stick for the whole recipe since my muffin cups came out a little greasy. Also, don't forget the baking soda! It's in the ingredients list, but not in the directions.

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2011
This is a wonderful base recipe! I doubled the batch, and it reheats very well the next day if you add a little milk. (Tastes better too, the flavors have a little time to meld.) I used a microplane for the cheese and turned off the heat before mixing it in, and it came out velvety smooth. It was a little thick even though I used light cream. I think next time I'll try half milk and half cream, more garlic and a little white wine.

Spiced Pot Roast

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2011
This roast has a delightfully sweet, warm flavor! I pureed the raisins and added carrots and finglerling potatoes for the last hour. My husband had seconds and it's tough to get him to try anything with curry.

Grandmother's Pound Cake II

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2009
This recipe was exactly what I was looking for! It's just like the pound cake my mom made when I was small--not too sweet, very dense and moist, and a nice, sugary crust on top. Two things: I was alarmed when I was finished mixing the batter and the instructions read to pour it into the pan, because my batter was so thick I had to spoon it in and level it with a rubber spatula. So, don't worry if your batter seems thick. Also, since I halved the recipe and used a 9.25 x 5.25 loaf pan, I only had enough batter to fill the pan a little over halfway. The cake didn't rise much, which is not a bad thing at all, but the final shape of my cake was kind of funny, flat loaf. (My fault entirely!) Next time I'll use smaller pans, and whatever the size, make sure I fill them 3/4 full. Great recipe, thanks for sharing!

Apple Cobbler

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2006
I followed the recipe and was careful with the flour, but this came out bland and dry. I think I prefer the other cobbler recipes where the dough rises through liquid to cook. I won't be attempting this again.

Peach Cobbler III

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2006
I wanted cobbler and only had one small (15 oz) can of peaches on hand, but this recipe turned out well! I used the syrup from the can as part of the liquid, still used the amount of sugar listed, but cut the liquid down by about a third. The crust rose properly and it was delicious warm.

Buttery Pan Rolls

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2003
These rolls are delicious and idiot-proof! I ran out of flour before I could add the last half cup, and used bisquick instead for the rest of the recipe because it was all I had in the house. They still turned out great.

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2003
I've made this three or four times now, and it has the best texture of any pizza crust I've made. The first time, it came out a little bland for me, so I started adding canned minced garlic, basil, and a little grated parmesan cheese when it's time to mix in the olive oil and salt. I found what really helps the flavor, though, is letting the dough ball set in the fridge for a day or two before using it. Overall, this recipe is great and I will definitely continue making it in the future.

Easy Salmon Cakes

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2003
I doubled this recipe for the family and they all loved it. I didn't change a thing, but I did add a small dollop of Cream Dill Sauce, which is also on this site. If you fry them in oil, they stay moist and don't really need the sauce at all.

This pumpkin bread is even better than my mother's. It's so moist! I sprinkled chopped pecans on the top before baking, and it was delicious. 12-24-01: This recipe got me a promotion!! THANKS SO MUCH!
