About this Cook

I cook and bake for my family and friends. I love to try new techniques and kitchen gear.

My favorite things to cook

I love to cook most all food. Mexican, Indian, Italian. Puerto Rican. Cajun. I like complicated recipes but also enjoy cooking quick meals. I don't have an absolute favorite thing to cook; I love all food for its unique qualities and enjoy cooking most foods.

My favorite family cooking traditions

I bake a birthday cake for each of my immediate relatives. Love holiday traditions: Christmas cookies and steamed plum pudding. Easter pies and antipasto. Deviled egg eyeballs and jello shots for Halloween. Thanksgiving stuffed mushrooms. I love all the family recipes that don't have measurements-- the ones that you cook by feel.

My cooking triumphs

Claypot cooking. Waterbath canning. Salt crust roast beef. Cupcake decorating. Layer cakes. Any new techniques that I conquer are triumphs.

My cooking tragedies

I can't fry an egg!

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers

This is a tasty recipe. Why so many different opinions as to whether the burgers will hold together? Well, the wetness of the veggies and beans is variable...so cooks must use some common sense and tweaks when putting these burgers together. I doubled the beans and bread crumbs in the recipe but only needed a single recipe of peppers, onions and garlic. Used double recipe of seasoning and added a couple tablespoons dried cilantro. My family enjoyed these veggie burgers. Thanks LAURENMU!

Braised Corned Beef Brisket

I made this recipe recently. I love slow cooking corned beef instead of boiling. I roasted this in my roaster at 250 degrees. This was delicious. Thanks Mauigirl!

Country Pound Cake

This is a good basic pound cake. I made it for a bake sale and sold nearly all the slices. I omitted the lemon extract...next time I'll double the vanilla extract. Thanks Morgan!
