About this Cook
I've been cooking since I was a child. I started when my mother went to work; she taught me many recipes "by feel" and by instructing me via telephone. It was an interesting initiation!
My favorite things to cook
I love all food. And I love ethnic food. Mexican, Indian, Italian. Puerto Rican. Cajun. I like complicated recipes but also enjoy cooking quick meals on the fly. My great grandmother owned a bakery; baking is in my blood. I love to bake cakes, cookies and bread. I don't think I have an absolute favorite thing to cook. I love all food for its unique qualities and enjoy cooking most foods.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas cookies. Easter pies. Steamed plum pudding for Christmas. Deviled egg eyeballs and jello shots for Halloween. Antipasto. I love all the family recipes that don't have measurements-- the ones that you cook by feel or on the fly.
My cooking triumphs
Giant cupcake cake with chocolate liner is my most recent triumph. Thanksgiving pumpkin pecan pie with homemade crust.
My cooking tragedies
I'm my greatest critic when it comes to baking. I mess up my baking all the time; I like things to be as pretty as they are yummy. If they don't meet that expectation then I label them " tragedies" and try again. Other tragedies: I spilled homemade veggie stock all over myself and my kitchen on Thanksgiving.

Old Fashioned Vanilla Ice Pops (a.k.a. Pop Pops)
I made this delightful frozen snack using locally brewed "Creme Soda" which is light brown; hence the brownish colored pops. The bottled soda pop is 12oz so I adjusted the recipe quantities accordingly: 12oz soda, 1c. water, 1/4c. sugar (I used Splenda granular) and 1/8+ tsp. vanilla. I made 4 popscicles and 1 tray of pop cubes. The pops taste wonderful and refreshing. I plan to make a second batch using orange soda and orange extract since my DS loves orange soda. Thank you SHORECOOK for the fun recipe!

Rich Chocolate Frosting
I needed this to be crusting buttercream so I made it with shortening subbed for half the butter and i used a few ounces of heavy cream instead of milk. Tastes great, rich and fudgey. Will make this again. Thanks Amy for the recipe.

Mother-In-Law Eggs
I made these yesterday. I only used 2 pinches of sugar in a double batch because we prefer only subtle sweet. These eggs are tangy and delicious the way deviled eggs should be. Thanks SHORECOOK for the staple recipe.
