Slow Cooker Rosemary and Red Pepper Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2003
I think with some modifications this could be a tasty meal. It smelled wonderful in the beginning. I cut the chicken into large chunks and that could be why it cooked in 3-4 hours. The chicken and the ground pork were very dry. Also the sauce was very bitter with only the vermouth. I had to add quite a bit of salt and a few big scoops of sugar to lessen the bitterness. I cook by recipes mostly and am not that great at modifying a base with vermouth only. So, others may know just what this recipe needs. Linguine was a good pasta for this.

Baba Ghanoush

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2003
This recipe was way too bitter. If I could figure out how to change that then I'd try it again, along with cutting the seeds out of the eggplant. They were not appetizing.

Banana Muffins II

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2003
Very simple and yummy. My one year old loves them. I also cut the sugar in half and add an extra banana if I have it, and I use half whole wheat.

Better Slow Cooker Robust Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2003
I made this for a friend and it was a total hit with her and her family. She has made it 3 times since. For my own taste I would decrease the green olives a bit. I like them, but the flavor is very powerful.

Chow Mein Noodle Casserole

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2005
This was o.k. I used Worcestershire Sauce in place of the Soy sauce just for that different flavor. I also doubled the rice and used ground turkey. I take a couple cups of this mix out before adding the soup (picky non-canned soup lover husband). I also did not have chow mein noodles, so tried the canned fried onions. They were pretty good. Kept them covered for most of the cooking to avoid burning them.

Hard Chocolate Glaze

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2005
This was so easy. I figured out that I could just use a little over a cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips in place of the squares. I was looking for the recipe that would taste like a candy bar on the cake and this does.

Yummy Sweet Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2005
This was a hit for Thanksgiving. People loved it. I didn't use sweet potatoes because they are so dry and I didn't want to risk it not turning out. I used 4 large yams instead. Then to compensate for the sweetness of the yams I only added a little under 1/4 of sugar. This was just right, we could still taste the potatoes and the topping more than made sweet spots. I also used a small casserole bowl to bake in because I wanted to save space, so cooked extra to be sure the middle got hot.

Evelyn's Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2006
I only used this recipe because my good one was boxed up. This was terrible to work with. I knew I should not have added the milk. I am sure that they will be tasteless when cooked because I had to add so much flour to cut them out and get them off the board.

Carrot Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2006
This was pretty good. My very picky husband liked it, but not the kids. I doubled the carrots and used regular onion since I didn't have green ones. I would prefer it pureed.

This is very bland. I would add a little sugar and more salt.

MMMMM... Brownies

Reviewed: May 12, 2008
WOW! I have not cared much for any homemade brownies but these are THE exception. I added some butterscotch chips one time and now peanut butter. Nearly made myself sick with eating too many!

Cooky Cookies

Awesome cookies!! I added chocolate chips (in the picture but not ingredients). They are pretty dry to handle but cook up great. Many kids loved them too (without the nuts).

Rice Flour Pancakes

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2009
These were pretty good just following the directions. I made a second batch trying to "fluff" them up with some baking powder, but also added some salt. This batch was way too salty and they were a bit hard. I will follow the original recipe, but add a pinch of salt. Loved this since I only had to have the rice flour instead of the other gluten free ingredients. My kids really liked them.

Ooey Gooey Breakfast Rolls

I forgot to mention in earlier review that I use the frozen dinner rolls. It eliminates some steps, but may be more expensive.

Perfect Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2011
Great cake. I did double the chocolate buttercream frosting because one batch just didn't cover it. The whipped cream and frosting are pretty sweet. I might try adding less sugar to the whip next time.

Hot Fudge Sauce II

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2011
Awesome! I made some modifications after reading others' reviews, used 2/3 cup milk and less sugar (about a cup less). I prefer a darker chocolate taste. Turned out creamy and delicious.

Apple Bavarian Torte

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2011
Very good. I followed other reviewers' suggestions and microwaved the apples for about 2 minutes. I doubled all the rest of the recipe and used an 11in spring form tart pan. I had to turn my oven down quite a bit and cooked a little longer, so not to scorch the top. It turned out wonderfully.

Best Lactose Free Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2011
These are amazing. For my taste I added just under a cup of sugar, could probably use even a bit less. They are plenty sweet. I also used whole wheat pastry flour and frozen blueberries and they both worked fine. I think the lime juice really sets these apart from other muffins. I also used real butter but will try Earth's best substitute next time.

Chinese Chicken Fried Rice II

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2011
I used short grain brown rice and this did not seem to be a problem when used still warm. I also add peas and sesame oil. I sauteed green onions and this seems like a neat trick because I don't think my kids will detect them.
